Anyone had any experience of these? I spent a week in Scotland
recently and used a rucksack as usual. As the (rather faster) chaps
with me predicted, I was in agony at the end of each day. So I reckon
    this http://www.ventura-bike.com/library/bike_images/ho030-2.jpg is
    the solution. Whaddyfink?

Good if you have a passenger and want to take soft luggage at the rear of
the bike, as seen on a 900ss of a mate and gf.

Cuntly useless if you ride solo and can bungee the rucksack to the bike,
    using 6 euros straps.

90 euros can give you access to stylish soft panniers from Givi, which can
    contain up to 2x38 litres.

  3. All my recent bikes have had Ventura luggage on them. Great system with
lots of options (the same basic mount rails will take the full luggage
    or a sports rack).

The *really* good thing about them is that a fully-loaded system
doesn't make much difference to the handling of the bike since it
is on the centre-line of the bike. I guess the closest approximation is
a very light pillion who knows how to lean properly[1].. You do feel it
when scraping footpegs/knees in a corner since you now have more mass
on the upper side of the bike but that's about it.

And it hold sufficient alcohol for a whole evening[2].

    Phil.

[1] As in "doesn't try to lean but just goes with the bike".
[2] As proven by yours truely in France on several occasions.

Only used it a few times when I had mine, but I loved it (had a
    pillion).

I still have the fitting kit for a Thundercat if anybody wants it?

Obviously not at those over ton speeds. Go for the Ventura.

I actually had (on a Spanish national road, not autobahn) bungeed soft
panniers fly away at 150mph and dragged on the tarmac. Luckily all I lost
was not 10 grand euros, but the cost of new panniers and some (irresistible
    to burds) underwear.

  7. Indeed. I can confirm that Ventura kits stay on the bike at 150mph+

Or at least they did on my blade.
    Chastity belt?

If my recollection of his subsequent telling of the story [1] is
correct, he was doing closer to the ton when it happened. He broke his
little finger, and the SAMU said that Brit riders were the
best-protected, as they often wear full leathers.

    D.

[1] the story was told on the same night I got so rat-arsed that I
couldn't find my way back to the hotel, so my memory _may_ be
    compromised...

  11. Collar bone and ankle if memory serves. I was only tens of feet behind
him when the wheel locked up and I found myself riding through tyre
smoke. We'd have been in a lot worse trouble if we didn't have some
French speakers with us to help with the emergency services.

Put me off Oxford tail packs for life.

There's bugger all wrong with them if they are correctly fixed down.
The only instances of tailpack failure I've seen or heard of have been
due to fuckwittedness on the part of the person strapping them to the
    bike.

I had Ventura on the Tiger I bought from Phil and subsequently sold to
Zymurgy - it was really pretty good indeed - very easy to use, and -
although as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, I've also used strap
on soft luggage successfully - the Ventura stuff really is totally
    idiot proof.

  19. It looks nice and the fitting video I saw the other day was quite
straightforward, but if using it with a pillion, what is the benefit
over, say, a Givi top box? Those can be removed too, so only the rack
    needs to be on permanently.

I guess that would do just as well - I just think the Ventura stuff
    looks slightly less ugly!
