    Tankbag and small rucksack.

I've got a couple of 10l Kriega packs which are 100% waterproof and
could easily be attached to the arse end of your MV and if you don't
mind the cosmetic disadvantages you could even strap them on with
gaffer tape because you'd only be putting lightweight stuff in them.

This is why I still haven't totally discounted using the Tenere.

The mounting rails are (obviously) fixed to the bike but the actual
rack parts can be removed. Or replaced by the also-available 'sports
    rack'.

I may well have several bits of Ventura mounting rails/racks in my
garage left over from various bikes.

  4. I used to fit it as standard to all my bikes when I was doing an annual
bike tour. Proved it's worth in France one year when we had a desperate
'ran out of beer' moment. You can fit a *lot* of beer in an empty
    Ventura set..
And doesn't disturb the bike[1] anywhere nearly like panniers do. And I
    hate tankbags.

[1] It's like having a small, light, perfectly behaved pillion. One
that doesn't nut you in the back of the head when you brake or clout
you when you forget that she is on the back and you have just doubled
    the speed limit. Allegedly.

I think I've figured it out. If I tie the tops of my throwovers
together, I can hang them over the bike's arse like an upside down 'V'
so they're pretty much self-supporting. One strap at the front going
under the bum pad & another at the back going under the light should
    stop them going walkies.

That's more or less how I have to put them on the 10R, I can also
thread a strap above the exhausts but below the tailpiece to hold the
    whole lot together securely.
