Very interesting thread

  1. I'd like to have seen the wreckage of the bike, but it looks like the
front tyre left a huge black mark on the side of the car, so probably
    not a full-on side impact.

Slammed my nearly new [1] Cinquecento Sporting into a central
reservation barrier, at around 60mph, sideways, denting every panel
along the offisde - I lost the front on black ice overtaking a truck,
ended up staring at the front wheel of said truck through the
windscreen. Over-corrected it, and got a nice pendulum motion going
before slithering onto the grass and hitting the barrier. Fucking lucky,
    I was.

[1] Just over a year old, with under 10k miles on it.

In one of the papers (FT/Guardian?) today in an article on Conrad Black
it was stated that people who went to boarding schoolds would adapt well
enough to prison. Further, if they've got usable skills and a little
nouse they would probably not get too rough a time from the inmates.
People with a background in law were always in demand so... I reckon
your appointment with Mr Big would be to discuss his case rather than in
the shower; thank Ged for your education.

Does this include driving into parked cars?

I've mildly twatted two on motorways (needed to be recovered) by falling
asleep at the wheel if it counts. If not, then one into a parked car...

That reminds me: there's a "new" Gixxer6 turned up at work. Fancy can,
(possibly fake) carbon stick-on bits, you get the general idea. And a
"www.gixeRboyz.co.uk" sticker each side of the screen, with the 'R' done
    in the appropriate font.

I mean... really. "Boyz"? With a "Z"? Aren't they some kind of popular
    beat combo?

Oh, I knew I shouldn't have looked at their website: their "Track Days"
gallery is sub-titled "Think Your Fast? ... Show Us In Here Then."

I did six months back in '93/4 for twatting a smackhead....

It was initially scary and very intimidating as you go to a Cat A prison
first, they're the ones with the major nutcases and lifers in while they
decide what to do to you, then it's off to an open nick if you are deemed to
be reasonably safe and unlikely to twat anyone else.

The Cat A prison was worthy of the name. A really horrible, nasty,
intimidating place where you spend around 22 hours a day locked in a small
cell with someone you don't know and are unlikely to get to know as either
you or they're likely to be moved within a few days. My 'cellmates' were a
smackhead in for council tax, and an utter knobhead who tried to steal a CID
    car.

Open prison, on the other hand, was pretty easy. Food was much better, beer
was easily available 'over the fence' and there was quite a bit of weed
knocking about. I had work in a woodworking shop and there was a communal
telly room in each 'billet' so the evenings were quite easily dealt with.
Bloody good library as well, I read most nights for hours..

Going back wouldn't be my choice, but I can understand how people get
    institutionalised.

I'd do a couple of years for 5 million quid, but 5 years is too long.

Have you any idea of just how much of a **** you have to be driving like
to get an Integra Type R to lose the back end?

In the past I worked as a contract test driver at Millbrook. About half
my time there was spent on the handling circuits at high spped. Have you
any idea just how much effort is involved in getting a FWD sports hatch
or sports saloon to break traction at the rear without using the
handbrake? I do, it's fucking difficult - and my experience of it is 10
years old, when cars didn't handle as well as they do now, and when
    tyres weren't as sticky.

A valid point for sure on most cars - but I've personally found Honda Type-R
cars (Civic, 'Teg and to a lesser extent the Accord) to have more 'racey'
balanced knife edge handling. Not so much as to be dangerous, but certainly
the front end, in the dry, is utterley dialed in, and a little bit of trail
braking or going into a corner too hard off the throttle can make the back
more lively than in most cars - very similar to things such as the 205 GTi
in that respect. Of course, this is just my view of those particular cars.

This bunch were in a pit garage close to us at an endurance event last
summer. Rough looking bunch of coves, but the "GixeRgirlz" were quite
easy on the eye, if not the overalls. IIRC, it was their Transit that
was covered in a slick (from the doors backward) of engine oil and the
front of their caravan was absolutely dripping in the stuff. Didn't
get much of a chance to talk to them, as they blew up and fucked off
in their own smokescreen quite early on.

3 in total. Two Hillman Hunters (one the GT so it was pretty quick in its
day), coz the car I hired was one too and then the Corsir makes 3. A good

We (that's my boychick and me) repaired an old love's car after she took the
left side off. Front to back including both doors. Now remember that, the
    LEFT side (n/s).

She did this by hitting another car as she turned left off the main road
into a minor road. The other car was stopped waiting for a gap in traffic.
His car was also destroyed all along the left hand side. Yep his left side
    too.

We pointed out to the old love that it's not entirley usual to drive down
the pavement on the right hand side of the road when turning left, but I
fear that it all fell on deaf ears. A good match for the blind eyes I'd say.

When we took her car back and parked it in her drive, we asked her to
inspect it and sign the insurance satisfaction note. She poked her head
outside, looked at the car and said "It looks lovely".

Well of course it would, she was looking at the RIGHT hand side of the car
and side that hadn't been damaged. Well not until she took the gatepost and
wheelie bin out later in the afternoon.

Some folks really shouldn't get behind a wheel.

I inadvertantly did it in the Hyundai Accent a few months back (I shit
    you not).

Coming off the roundabout at the start of the A40 dual carriageway at
Witney, I was going too fast and couldn't be arsed to change gear.

The back stepped right out (I mean to almost 90 degrees as we entered
the dual carriageway). As it started to go I thought "ooh,
interesting" anda s it gradually overcooked itself "oh shit".

I managed to steer into it (as fortunately "too fast" in Hyundai Accent
parlance is not really that fast at all. However, as traction bit, it
sort of tried to highside the car, so pretty soon the whole thing was
happening again, but on the opposite lock.

The incident only lasted a few seconds, but was a bit concerning.
SWMBO was in the car at the time and gave me a right earfull. The car
behind dropped way back and passed me very carefully once we were on a
    steady course.

Had the road I was entering not been a dual carriageway I would have
been fucked, even more so had something come the other way.

    Twas a wakeup call.

To clarify, I meant details of my exploits.
About 99% **** I imagine. Never driven anything so sporty and FWD
myself. My twattish incidents were both in a RWD Alfa and a near miss in
a Manta, oh and I managed to lose the back end of a mini several times,
but that was far from sporty, being a pickup.
