Sounds a terrible thing to do to some lovely knives, IMHO. OTOH they're

  2. Aldi sell glass ones on their special list from time to time.
Not sure how kind they'd be to knives, though. When my dad worked at
the abbatoirs (and me too in the hols) they used sheets of what I guess
was high-density polyethylene (very white) and he'd bring offcuts home
for kitchen use. I guess they had a high turnover rate on the floor --
and steam hoses to rinse them off every afternoon!

Youre absolutely right, but I wasn't asking about knives was I? Nor was
I asking about the best type of chopping board to use which would be
    kind to knives?

    sooooooo????????.................

IME they buckle and go fluffy in very little time. Oh and they are too
light, so skid all over the place.

Im quite unsure why some of you think I am worried about bugs and that
I may die if I don't get the correct chopping board.
I just want a board that will be long lasting and I can keep easily
    clean thats all.

I'll vote for a glass one then. Mine hasn't killed my (very good
quality) knives yet, & you can't beat it for ease of cleaning.

    Get a fresh tomato.

    Get your knife.

Can it cut the skin with no pressure at all - if not, its blunt.

Oak is abrasive (one of its defences against insects that bore holes)
    and blunts edges
Many foreign hardwoods are mildly poisonous and can taint flavours.

This is UKRM. What you actually *asked* is now secondary.
Easy to keep clean, but you're not worried about bugs on it?

    Alternatively....

Go to a restaurant and stop being so fucking pikey.

Since I finished work at 17:30 I've driven to the hotel and had a
beer, went to my room and had a shower/chilled for an hour, went to a
pub and had a couple more beers then went for a Chinese and returned
to my hotel. What could be easier?

Maybe H&S are still wondering where the last inspector went. Does
your butcher do exceedingly good porkish pies?

Yeah, it's interesting when the fruit cake tastes of garlic.
So I am given to understand.
