I've got a box of musicassettes sitting in the corner of the spare bedroom.
In theory, I could've used them up until 2007, when I changed the car. I
don't think any have been used since moving from Ross in 2002, and probably
    for some time before then.

Praise, indeed, sir. I am flattered.

I do too. I really can't figure out why I keep it all, but there is
something soothing about the ritual of loading media, much as I prefer
    the convenience of the XBMC.

Hopefully the new Cyrus multiroom streamer will be worth it's salt when
it finally sees the light of day. Especially now since my mate 'in the
trade' is rather more specifically a Cyrus product manager. Which is nice.

Convenience is all well and good, but I do like to peruse the shelves,
pull a disc out, check the track listing ... and then go and get
another one out that the first one's reminded me of. Anyway, I'd be
lost without them all - I CBA to measure the linear metreage of
shelvage, but it would be 'lots' and I'd rather have that than a load
    of blank wallage.
Right up your alley, that. In a manner of speaking.

As I recall, they were OK, although they probably work better with a
more delicate touch than I'm used to on my wooden boards, which also
    stay in place better.

But the major flaw with your colour-coded ones was that I didn't have
a clue what the codes meant, and neither, IIRC, did you ;-)

    That's interesting.

I hardly ever check track listings, unless I am looking for a specific song.

I play (and logically listen to) albums, mostly. My listening id
normally triggered by the desire to hear the music of a given artist, or
    genre.
If Artist, then I shall select an album based on what I know is on it (I
suppose there's a mental track list there), if genre, then I shall
select and artist and loop as above.

IIRC I have less music than you, which may have a bearing on me not
needing to read track lists IYSWIM.

The listening of an album may then prompt another, of which I have been
reminded, but generally I go to shelf, grab album, listen, without being
    'derailed' as it were.

SMBO has just been given complete Mozart violin concertos on Decca by
Arthur Grumiaux and the LSO. Rather lovely, it is.
Indeed. Quality *and* convenience. And that's just his new job :)

I delight in pulling the right album for a specific track, especially
when it's one of the "Hits of the 70s" or similar compilations. A real
triumph if it is on "Top Ten Hits of 1971/2/3/4 ... " and I get the
    right year straight off.
Oh, absolutely. If I'm actively listening (rather than using music as
a background to reading) then I'm quite likely to hop off the sofa and
trot over to a shelf and seek out another album which the one playing
has triggered off a desire to hear - and then substitute it immediately
    - and so on and so forth. Most annoying for other people, so I tend to
restrict it to when it's just me in the house.

I know when I've had a good session, when there's a pile of disc cases
in front of the CD player, especially when there's no obvious link
    between them.
Dunno about that. There's about 2,500 CDs in the house, but I have
been accumulating them since 1984. I couldn't reel off a track list
for many of them, but if somebody asks for a specific track and I think
I've got it, I'll generally be able to pick the right album after a
    couple of minutes shelf scanning.
I'm a bugger for derailment, as above. But that's how I get my kicks.
Coo, I've got a bunch of heavyweight vinyl albums in the loft, full of
Mozart and his mates. Deutsche Grammofon (sp?) 'audiophile'
recordings. As you say, rather lovely: I like my classical music to be
.... tactile, I suppose and Mozart is sweet and light. Very pleasant
for an after-dinner sit down and drift.
    Sorted!

Oooh, no. I never do that. Respect to the artistes (perhaps).
Eww. My OCD is showing again. Take one out, listen to it, then pick the
next. Put the played one back first.
That's an order of magnitude more than I have, even if I include the
    stuff I have digitally only.
Lovely recordings, normally. I like all sorts of classical stuff, but
rarely know what I'm actually listening to. Odd given that I was trained.
Welcome to wander up if I ever get it. You might even find the 40 year
old scotch that I was given for my birthday might get unlocked.

Game on! I'd be very interested - and as for the Scotch - well, I
    think Champ might approve.
