  2. I'm not sure there is a /right/ answer. When it comes to cooking, I
work on the basis of "put shit in, get shit out", therefore if I
wouldn't drink it, I won't cook with it. All the better for any of you
lucky (?) enough to eat my nosh.

That said, there is plenty of call for (or is that acceptance of?)
shite food, made from shite ingredients, so perhaps half the world
    can't be wrong.

I suppose I better reply, as I'm accused of arguing like a gurl.

What I was suggesting was that I'd not waste a €20 bottle of wine *in*
a dinner, but would use a cheaper wine as I don't believe that the
resulting taste would be, in any way, compromised.

I did not say that any wines costing less that €20 are shite (far from
it, I've tasted some very nice plonk in the €2 - €3 range).

    Bad form, etc.

That doesn't sound right. Ah bollox.

Yes, most of the time, as long as the wine wasn't at the vinegar stage
or was Maltese. Because I don't think that the resulting taste would be
    compromised.

There y'go. A direct answer. At last.

Shows what you know then. Even Champ seems to realise that cooking
with shite wine will make a shite dish.
'bout fuckin time. You still argue like a gurl though, backing down
when you're pressed into a corner, like.

I wasn't talking about "fine" wines[1], but Cab says he'll cook with
stuff he doesn't consider fit to drink, and I know he's no snob when
it comes to slurping the two or three Euro stuff, so his 'undrinkable'
wine is going to be pretty fucking bad whatever you do with it.

[1] 'cos I'd agree that most wine-based sauces, for example, would
differ little between the use of a four-Euro generic Cotes du Rhone
    and a thirty-euro Lirac[2].
[2] Of which I have some particularly fine examples in the cellar.

Oh piss off bear. We all know that you know best, regardless of the
subject, but that when it comes to cooking you're up there somewhere
between Raymond Blanc and the Roux brothers, but try reading what's
been posted before coming over quite so condescending, would you?

Isn't that a definition of deconstructionism?
Probably not, but I've never quite been able to understand it....

  11. I don't disagree.
Excellent, it's so nice when we all agree.
That is to say, at no point did I mean to suggest that only expensive
wine should be used in cooking, some, probably quite a lot, of cheap
wine is perfectly acceptable for cooking.

    And drinking.

*bad* wine on the other hand.....

Well I don't agree. 'sides Champ has made it very clear in the past
that he eats to live. He doesn't eat to enjoy the food.

But you wouldn't know the difference between a good wine and a shite
wine in a meal most of the time. It should be pointed out that the
quantity of wine in the meal is also important (and the type of meal).
