    Theo,

The motor developed a vibration at 5,000 RPM in the late 1980's. HONDA
did not want to know about it, and I lost interest in the bike.
Bearings were OK ( checked sump etc.), compression was OK, but, at the
time, I just parked the bike.

In 1993, I moved to Japan for 5 years, and bike sat at home.

Fast forward to 2003, and I moved bike to Melbourne. I currently spend
a lot of my time overseas for work, so, I dont always have time to work
    on the bike.

Thats why the bike has done only 18,000 KM in 22 years.

For those who say that VF1000R & F had no cam problems, well, thats
    incorrect.:-(

The VF1000R DID have camshaft problems.....I had two sets replaced
under warranty. One set at 4,000 KM...Another at 12,000 KM.

My cams lok good now, and I have purchased a " top end " oil kit to fit
    the bike as well.

    Regards ................Peter

    Oh well; wrong again!
    http://www.vf1000.com/
Down the bottom of the VF1000F2 page it says "chain-driven cams".
(Mind you; it also says "the F2 is the heaviest of all the VF's weighing
145Kg.." so maybe it's isn't all that definitive!!)

OK I concede that they were named "Bol D'or" (in an odd diversion from
Honda's normal naming) but I still reckon the "Super" was the CB1100F!

    Isaac,

    Try this link...

    http://www.one-ring.net/strider/stable/oilmod.html

I purchased mine a few years ago..Have not installed it due to my
schedule of work. A mate of mine in SYdney copied it, and put one on
his VF1000R...He feels it works well.

  10. Nope, the Super BolD'Or VF1000F2 is very close to the VF1000F, with a
different fairing and front wheel. I know why for the same reason Pat
knows, we have a friend who has had one from new, with not a camshaft
problem ever. Rode it once 13 years ago, nice bike, plenty grunt. His main
ride now is one of the last R100RS's (Rennesport #2). Nearly bought a new
VF1000F2 myself years ago, got a good price but couldn't sell my Rover 3500
P6B quickly enough to raise the required vouchers.

  12. I couldn't remember if it was actually Super like the larger CB or not,but I
was certainly too lazy to check... :)

  13. You're right there, they can all make one good bike sometimes even if its
not typical of the model. Why is it that so many of the Jap manufacturers
keep stuffing up camshafts though? It's not like they're a new thing.

Only 3 years ago a mate had to get the cams replaced on his 1000GTR
Kawasaki, less than a year old. They've been making GTRs since '86 (from
memory), you'd think they'd be sorted by now.

Maybe it's cheaper to fit a new camchain than to redesign it... (and if
it lasts longer than the warranty it's not a problem at all, is it).

BMW had to delay the launch of the K1200S because of faulty cams. You have
    to wonder about production quality.
