VFR750 / 800 exhausts

I have a pal who has a vfr800 and it needs a new exhaust, he has seen the
exhaust he would like on ebay but it is for a 750. I said it would most
likely be different fittings/bore size but I would ask the FOAK, so all you
viffer experts... what do you say?

They're different. I have 2 end cans for a 750 in the garage, but
they're a very slightly smaller bore than the headers / collector on the
800.

The original headers could be cut to stubs and the new downpipes welded
on. Depends how keen he is on it looking immaculate, but a weld seam on
a header isn't going to be that noticeable. The very slightly smaller
bore on the replacement system won't make a difference except at the
very top end, and who is up there that often?
