My R100GSPD BMW costs me $205.85 per year in Queensland (Brisbane)
registered as a single seat motorcycle. The 1974 BMW R75/6 and 1978 BMW
R100RS and 1976 VW Kombi Camper cost a little over $100 per year each
registered as Classic's (over 30 years old).

250cc in ACT cost me someting like $182 a couple of years ago... we have
LAMS here, and size still matters...

We pay over $2500 a year for 5 rego's down here in Victoria.

    Maybe we should shift north!

Then add in the cost of the CTP insurance that is included in your Vic
    'rego'.

ACT rego includes CTP slip, so seems it works out pretty much the same. Why

  14. Victoria is in the dark ages with motorcycles, the powers that be think that
they take up the same road space as cars and are as damaging to the road as
    trucks
The only thing going for motorcycles in Victoria is the no toll charges
but, they are working on it ,
as soon as they can get a weatherproof, theftproof and vibration proof
    Etag, they will start charging.

  17. Steep, but then again, when someone writes themselves off in NT,
chances are there'll be a longer wait before a longer ambulance ride
to hospital involved than in the more crowded parts of the country,
and the longer the interval between injury and initial treatment, the
longer and more complicated the recovery tends to be. Throw in some
schlepping by air back and forth to Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne for
specialist orthopaedic or neurological treatment not available in
Darwin or Alice Springs and it's plausible that it'll cost more to fix
someone hurt in a road crash in the NT than elsewhere.

Note, also, that the state with the least regulated CTP insurance
market, NSW, is also the most expensive. Provision of mandatory
services by the private sector is generally a recipe for extortionate
pricing because what are the public going to do; not pay?.

    = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =

As there is no law against lane splitting in Victoria
it is legal if done in safety

    copy from MRA: May 2006

While there are no specific statutes against lane splitting in Victoria,
there are laws against changing lanes without indicating, passing on the
left, and dangerous riding. If a rider pays sufficient regard to these laws,
it is likely s/he will not be breaking the law when splitting lanes.

The Motorcycle Riders Association of Australia notes that the proposed
Australian Road Rule 151(a) concerning motorcycle "lane splitting" has been
withdrawn. The rule has been withdrawn and referred back to the Australian
Road Rules Maintenance Group to address the issues raised during public
    consultation.

Vic Roads want $399.70 all in for a VTR250 rego. I thought it was a
lot (ie. I don't value what I get for my money).

  20. On Eastlink they are slugging motorbikes for tolls. The worked out
which way around to put the cameras. In brighter news that might stop a
bit of the push for front numberplates. As it takes away one of the
    revenue raising "safety" reaasons.
