Victorian Speed cameras and their mounting and stuff

Discussion in 'Australian Motorcycles' started by Hamish Alker-Jones, Nov 6, 2003.

  1. Okay long term mexicans (or any one else for that matter)

What vehicles are fitted to take moving pictures in Victoria? Do the
cameras need to be stationary? So while a patrol car or the like has a
camera is it allowed to take piccies on the go is what I mean.

What police vehicles have radars in them? Are they all equiped, even the
4wds and them bongo vans and paddy wagons?

Also, is it illegal to drink in the car if you are a passenger in the
    vehicle?

    Cheers

No. In fact even the driver is still allowed to drink! There's talk of
    changing that, though.

moving pictures? as in video? or pictures of moving traffic?

Speed camera vehicles are a mixed variety of privately owned and mostly late
model vehicles operated by Tenix the speed camera contractor.
The cameras are designed to be used either in a moving or stationary vehicle
but in Victoria they are only used in stationary vehicles
All traffic police vehicles have handheld or fixed radar units, as do some/all
divisional vans and other station cars. Usually on the traffic cars the unit
hangs off the side of the disco lights same as in NSW. These are used on some
unmarked cars also. In the city I think it's only the traffic police who have
radar. In the country I think it's safe to assume that every police car is
equipped with handheld radar so they can set up a radar trap at the first 60
sign in town on quiet days. I think all police motorcycles have handheld
radar guns in one of the panniers and about a dozen or so bikes are equipped
with mobile radar, a small unit mounted on the top of one of the RHS crash bar
    on the beemers.
    No.

The key to it is where they park -- mostly in stupid places.
Last weekend there was on in Yarra Glen, and another on the
way to Wattle Glen. Both were parked in utterly useless places,
you'd never park there unless the car broke down.
Nope, mostly highway patrol type ones, I think. The statiionary ones
rack in the money fast enough that I don't think they bother.
They've all got breath-testing kit though.
Don't think so, unless the driver is on a restricted license. I think.
    Not sure.

Were you still popping in next week some time?
