Thus spake The Older Gentleman unto the assembled multitudes:
The new Bonnie is a bit too retro for my liking. I think the Thunderbird
    strikes the better balance.

Whenever people hear that I have a Triumph and start getting all misty-eyed
and nostalgic, I am constantly having to tell them that it's a Hinckley
Triumph and not the old company. Their reaction is often to go into a
sort of denial. It's amazing how many people - especially those who've
owned bikes - still don't realise that the 'new' Hinckley Triumph company
    actually exists. Weird.

  5. nice pics, BTW... the folks have just been looking at 'em, and saying "we
    had one like that".

    wot's the funny red scooter?

Austin Shackles. www.ddol-las.fsnet.co.uk my opinions are just that
"The breezy call of incense-breathing Morn, The swallow twittering
from the strawbuilt shed, The cock's shrill clarion, or the echoing
horn, No more shall rouse them from their lowly bed."

  6. bugger, yer right. Fooled me, I have to admit, in the pictures, though in
    the flesh it'd be obvious.

hohum. I do quite like them, mind, but they want silly money for 'em.

Love that Benelli 750 Sei! I even considered bidding on one in Arizona on
Ebay a few months back, but it was ratty as **** and I managed to persuade
the head to rule the heart for a change!

  9. I can do this'n, 's a Douglas.
we reckon a Gold Flash, which is not the same thing as a gold star...

we think it was probably a 650 twin, pre-unit, often used as a chair-lugger,
and in that sort of nick worth far more than any sensible person would pay
    for it, buggrit.

Classic bike market is ridiculous. People wanting 4-figure sums for such
    dross as BSA C15s.

Austin Shackles vaguely muttered something like ...
I wondered .. anyone know what Douglas ? I'm a real numpty on old brit
bikes ... but I _do_ like the look of this, and it remoinds of something
I've seen somewhere, but can't place yet.
Figures .. ;) We had an old BSA Starfire years ago, late sixties/early
seventies .. looked somewhat similar but in a different colour (shitty
reddish), and with, as I recall, different rear end and 'real' shocks, but
didn't look half as good. 'course, ours also leaked oil a little .. and had
a mite of rust about it maybe, and was _never_ quite so clean looking, even
    when new .. ;)
Heheheh, which is really disappointing if you really like a particular bike,
and need a mortgage to get one ..

  11. precisely - I have an irrational hankering for a velo 500, preferably a
venom, but they cost an arm and a leg, and are a bit scarce to boot. Nice
    bike though.

A Dragonfly. My uncle had one when I was a nipper. Used to borrow my
dad's car to go courting and leave the Douggie in our garage.

  14. A mate has one - Venom, with some Thruxton and other non-standard bits
on it. Looks lovely, though you get all the wankers coming up and
saying: "Oooohhh, that's the wrong year of footrest rubber on it..." and
suchlike. **** 'em: it's his bike.

Anyway, we've all heard the stories of how these things will do 90mph
all day, on a teacup of petrol, etc etc. Bugger me, this one does. I've
chased it across France on more than one occasion, and it don't half go,
    guv (doesn't *stop*, mind).

    Another bike I'd really like.

It was such an elegant looking bike . The one in the pics at the URL
    above is drop-dead gorgeous.

My uncle used to commute from Chester to Manchester 3 nights a week
for 2 years, whilst he was doing an evening class, on his Douggie. He
fitted a screen and legshields (which buggered up the looks but made
it rideable in the much colder winters of the late 50s) and he
reckoned he could spark up a fag, and smoke it at up to 70 mph in
comfort on that bike. They don't make bikes (or bikers) like that any
    more <G>.

Gold Flash, plunger-framed A10. My first bike, except that I never had
it on the road. My dad had it off me nearly 20 years after I bought it
and stripped it, and put it back on the road...

Worth a couple of grand in reasonable nick, probably more like 3-3.5
    in that condition.
