Question is, under current circumstances, will he get banged up?

    I think he probably will as he's not a paedophile . . . . . .

Oh come on, they're certainly going to shoot for a Dangerous Driving (or
whatever this week's Road Traffic Act is calling it).

Whether they get it is another question.

Then (as pointed out) there's TWOC.

Then there's Getting Yourself On The News, which means that An Example
    Must Be Made.

My money's on him getting jail.

Dangerous driving - regardless of whether it actually was or not.

Speeding shurely? You can get up to 2 years just for DD.

The real question is, how did he get caught ? If he was doing 170+ and
they were on a bridge, the article seems to imply that it was a lease
    car he'd borrowed.

I see that the offence of driving at speed dangerous to the public was
abolished in 1977. The Thames Valley lot that caught me on the R90/6
told me they could have considered that offence if the circumstances
had been different. Dunno what the maximum penalty might have been
    though.

That's simply not true. I've read DfT studies covering this kind of
thing, and there are examples of custodials for DD. My money's on a good
few years' ban though, esp as the car was "borrowed" from work.

Note that at this point he's merely been arrested (and presumably
bailed) on suspicion of DD. That doesn't mean he's going to be charged
for DD at all - at this point, if he has any sense, he's got a guilty
plea lined up for the speeding and he'll have a lawyer working to find a
way to ensure that he's charged with Careless Driving at the most.

These days plod don't pick the charge - they arrest, gather evidence,
and refer it to the CPS who decide what to charge with. Plod can make a
recommendation, but it's entirely down to the CPS to decide whether they
give it a first look, let alone a second.

I'd agree to this. I think he'll almost certainly have to sit a re-
test as well. And the beak will take a very dim view of the
combination of 170mph and no insurance.

Prace bets now. I reckon a £1000 fine, three months inside, three
    years' ban and a re-test.

  14. Aye, and I think yours truely got into a little bit of a race with said
porker on Saturday about 3 mins before he was nicked.
We left the A34 Botley interchange and as he was sat about 2cm from my
bumper on the A420, so I pulled it over whilst keeping the revs up.
At around ahem xxx ish he left me for shit, so I backed off around the layby
on the hill on the bypass heading towards Abingdon, as I knew the rozzers
always sat on the Cumnor Bridge tagging people coming either way.
As I passed the land rover dealership a jam sandwich came howling past me
    travelling towards Southmoor.
I left at the Wantage turn/a338, and didn't see said porker pulled, but it
can only be the same car round these part shirley..
