    Damn

My indicator switch died on the way to work last night. I indicated right
for the last 5 klicks. Just got a price for a new switch block - over
$200!. Why don't they make them repairable or modular. IAW Murphy's Law
this happened the day after I spent $100 that I couldn't afford to spend on
tickets to a concert. In keeping with the ambience of the bike I am
thinking of wiring in a bodgy switch. An on-off-on toggle switch in a 35mm
film cannister electrical taped to the handlebar should do the job.

What makes you think it isn't repairable?

And why not go to a wrecker, get something more or less right, and wire
    it in?

Odd that, the Honda ones are ... are you sure you can't sneak it
    apart somehow?

Discount Motorcycle Wreckers in Brunswick do lots of older
    BMW stuff.
Well, you could. Your other option would be to grab your current
worthless switchblock, pull out its innards, bog up the holes and
drill a new hole for the toggle switch! Very nice.

I took the spuds one appart and cleaned it out and used washers to space it
so it springs freely - works well now

should be 2 screws underneeth that you take it off with, and then you can
pull it appart from inside of it. i think they are mostly the same so buy
one that looks similar with the same switches from a wrecker and wire it up.

or use your hands to turn :)

I'm having a go at fixing it but don't hold out much hope. It's definitely
not meant to be fixed, I had to hacksaw it, bend bits out of the way to get
at the broken piece. I have glued the broken piece together. If that
holds, I then have to return the switch block to some resemblance of its
original shape and see if it works.

The only place in Bne that wrecks BMWs is the place I can get the new one,
they don't have a second hand one either.

you would think they are mostly the same. Most of the ones I have seen are
a top and bottom half that clamp around the handlebar. Mine has a metal
handlebar clamp whish has the choke lever on it. the switch block is a
plastic panel that screws on the clamp facing the rider.

    It's hardly a ratbike if you're pricing a new switchblock. A 3 position
toggle switch from Jaycar is about $2

I'm 'pricing' one not necessarily 'buying' one.
