I finally received most of the engine bits for the V11; enough at
least to reassemble the bottom end and put it back in the frame.

With just one minor problem: I'd ordered via a website and, as the big
ends looked slightly iffy, ordered two sets of bearing shells. Or so I
thought. I now have a grand total of two new shells. I had kind of
assumed that they were sold as a set; I mean, who would replace a
single shell? I'll check with Speedaway tomorrow, but I'll either
have to choose which big-end is the worse and just do that, or order
another set of shells with a potential multi-week wait. It's been a
couple of months already and I still don't have all the bits. Summer
    is ticking away.

I could also do the other big-end some other time by dropping the sump
& adaptor plate but strictly that would mean replacing the big-end
bolts a second time - V11s of certain years were a little fragile in
that area and were subject to recall, so I don't really fancy gambling
    on these.

I didn't know that either. It does seem odd as I can't imagine replacing
    one.
Then again beemer airhead engine mains are a rather odd one piece shell (a
bitch to put in right). But I recall the car bearings coming out of stores
    in little boxes of two.

Well, it appears to be sorted: Motomecca had them in stock.

    Gonna be a busy weekend.
