Wall-to-wall plod at Sandown Park yesterday

Discussion in 'UK Motorcycles' started by Lemmiwinks, The Gerbil King, Dec 15, 2004.

  1. Riding past Sandown Park racecourse yesterday afternoon, there was loads
of plod around (on bikes and in cars sitting in pretty-much every
sideroad between Esher High Street and the "Silly Isles" roundabout).

Anyone know what it was about? I saw no obvious signs of mobile speed
traps, and they were so visible that nobody sober would have been
    speeding excessively through there.

I was followed for half a mile, while filtering through the traffic, by
a police motorcyclist, which was rather unnerving. I wanted him to
overtake so I could pick up a few tips, but it didn't happen.

What do you think he'd do? Nail it down the high street before backing it
into a roundabout, saving an almost high side with his knee and wheelying
through the gears down the dual carriageway?

  3. Dunno, but given I've been riding for a grand total of about 12 weeks I
figured whatever he did, he stood a reasonable change of doing it better
than me. I guess we're not all riding gods like your good self.

As it happens, he pulled away from the final set of lights with
considerably more gusto than me (I was sticking, as near as damn it, to
the 30mph limit), went all the way around the roundabout as disappeared
    from whence he came.

Try www.bikesafe.co.uk for your nearest course.
I did one from the Ace Cafe last year and it was well worth it.
It was great bimbling along a dual carriageway at 90+ with a cop bike
in your mirrors and not worry about being pulled!

Your never too old or young to learn.
