    Hmm... Nasty.

AVG didn't complain. I've had a rummage round and it *looks* like it
hasn't done anything bad on my system. I'll give Ebay a shout.

ISTR that it was [the original] Stavros Niarchos [not the current prat] who
said it first, and rather more in the lovably robust linguistic style of
    UKRM.

This little bastard just showed up on an AVG scan. Wasn't there
yesterday before I looked at said Fleabay item. QED.

I've reported the listing, it might be good if others did too.

You could probably just delete the file yourself from your Java .zip
    if you were that bothered.

Already done. The first virus that has actually got through to me for as
long as I can remember. Should really *pay* for a decent AV I suppose.
At least Free AVG found it.

Zone Alarm Firewall (free naturally). Oops I see their is an update I
    have not downloaded.

Google toolbar thingy at the top of browser.

Got windows updates on and it did one on shutdown last night.

Every chance that I had a popup-blocker thingy come up and I temporarily
allowed them without paying much attention.

Thanks for that will check it out. Can't take any longer than the Norton

Eh? So your free AV found the problem, but you still think you should
change it for a paid version. Do you think a paid version would have
found it sooner? Found it twice? Done something different?

Interesting. FF under Linux dunt even show a Java thing. Nothing looks
untoward on the code either. I wonder if the page has been tailored to
    attack IE only

Others seem to have been alerted by their AV packages as soon as the
    potential threat was identified.

OK I may not have been paying full attention but there was no obvious
    hint that anything was amiss.

Last scheduled scan was performed before I visited the WUN flying
fantasy link. Yes, Free AVG would presumably have alerted me at the next
scan (tomorrow morning). With a simple to remove nasty that is OK , but
I would rather have been warned off in the first place in case a more
complicated cure was needed once harbouring the beast.

If I do change I am more likely now to go for something else (free or
    otherwise) than a paid AVG.

Every chance. The limited information available by clicking on the AVG
test results details suggested it was a trojan that could change your IE
    home page I think.

OK, I see... doesn't AVG have a real time protection mode? Or was this
on, and your concern is that it was bypassed?
