Anyway I was on the RTA site looking for a plate when I found much to my
annoyance (being known as 'Squid' other than online) that the plate
squ-10 is not available - it's already taken. yee85 is there but I'd
prefer squ10 if the current owner wants to part with them.

Is it you ? Do you want it ? Get in touch with me please :)

I found yee85 is free, although "standard yellow with standard letter
and number layout" has an annual fee of $20 ? I can't find any way of
getting a chosen plate that doesn't incur the fee.. anyone ?

Finally, Betty will like the image at the top of the above :

    (the plate is 'b3tty')

As of sometime last year I think all vanity plates in NSW incur a fee.

That's my point, technically it's not a vanity plate .. or at least it
doesn't seem so to me .. but it IS a source of revenue I guess ;)

Yeah, move to Victoria. SQU1D is available for $495 with no ongoing fees.

If its not a plate out off the mass produced NEXT stack of plates -
then it is considered extra bux per year thanks mr.. or it was few yrs
    back.

495 ? at 30 and 20/year it'll take me a while to make it cost effective
... puts it in perspective I guess.

The plate he quoted you was a personalised plate, not what you want
which is a standard plate - to order... so it's not an even comparison.
Reserving a standard plate in Victoria cost me $120 15 years ago...
and no ongoing charges... no idea what the current fees are. Back in
those days you couldn't get them in advance either. Had to wait a year
until the normal sequence of plates caught up to the letter/number
    combination I ordered.

Cost effective? It's a vanity plate! What price do you put on your
    ego, man?! ;-)

people with personalized plates are wankers, and stupid to pay for the
privelege of being a wanker, they say a fool and their money are soon
    parted, how true

Damn, we've got a couple. But then, why would I value the opinion of someone
    who advertises their blondness?

You mean having a personal plate entitles me to jerk off ? Good thing I
ain't been busted by the cops before then .. As I've stated, I don't
view said plate as custom. Now shut the hell up or be constructive.

We have HEL-001 for Helen, I had MG-850 for my first Guzzi, and kept it for
the second, I currently have GUZZI-94 from the last Guzzi. WA appears to be
the land of the personalised plate. Probably one in ten vehicles here has a
PP. You only need to get ten as an organisation to get your own company/club
logo on them. We have people driving around with Geelong Football club
plates and some mildly imaginative ones as well. My personal favourite,
which I see every couple of weeks on my commute is WOGSWHEELS.
