I got special order plates for both my car and my bike several years ago,
and the only fee payable was $185 for the making thereof - no ongoing fees
    (both standard style/sequence plates).

Suppose it was only a matter of time before they created a new revenue
    stream for themselves :-(

I remember at the time they said that the plates were very popular and
so they were going to charge yearly fees for them as they did for the
fancier ones as a revenue thing.

I thought at the time that they'd find those plates a lot less popular
in a short amount of time.

Well basically I won't be getting one as a result .. I could wear a
one-off $200 or something but not $20 a year, ongoing.. that means if I
live to 65 it'll cost me $6K. As a result it's discriminating against
    the young (were I 60 it'd cost $100) so therefore it's ageist.

As a moral human (well, when it suits me :) ) I can't support
    discrimination.

It would cost me $20 :) but there's no ongoing fee for them in WA.
