    True.

    WiFiScan for Google G1: <

WiFiFoFum for the iPhone 3G is prettier, complete with Wifi 'radar',
but essentially what you get at the end is something to upload to
    Google earth.

Nice. I'm still amazed how many folk leave the SSID set as it comes?
How do you tell which AP's are open or not (from the map)?
I know but it does seem a simple all_in_one solution. I mentioned what
you had done to my tekky Blackberry owning neighbour and he was
interested and has since done something similar himself. He's working
on the Geotagging bit now. ;-)
Coincidentally that's what he's just mentioned on MSN.

I think I have an O2 handset that runs WM5 or suumat? I was given the
phone, played with it a bit and put it in the draw with the rest. ;-(
Or a real GPS and a WiFi laptop presumably? Not so easy on a motorbike
    but ... ;-)

I know this will be hard to believe but the last app I put on my G1
    was Pacman..

*Every single pushpin on that map is open* That is exactly how many
    there are.

This is the map of every road in my village showing every active WiFi
    network whether hidden or visible:

The original picture I posted *just* shows the open ones.
Googling/YouTubing for Blackberry wardriving doesn't seem to give any
decent hits, so perhaps there aren't any apps out there in the open
    yet for it.

Ah, sorry, I must have missed that bit along the way. (I was thinking
the bold push pins were just a random sample for some reason and in
spite of you saying so above). ;-(
I'll let you know what / if he finds. Hehe.

    I suppose I can't argue with that.

Nor me, although I like to add a little cream and sugar.

  9. The Sony FUPOS. Every manufacturer has made one, or two, or several.

I dislike anything that goes it's own way, the problem is that 'way'
could be could and could be the new de facto standard?
Yup, but again it's possible that their solution is a better one (VHS
/ Beta etc). It could be bigger or faster etc. I guess (as you say) on
one hand that's a plus, *if* you happen to like that particular
product but not so with dealing with it's uniqueness.
At the time yes, but I thought we were supposed to be on AAC now
(isn't it an open standard etc)? I think it's even been adopted by
    Sony!
Agreed. I recently had to upgrade <g> a Vaio from Vista to XP and
wasn't sure how I would get on without all the drivers etc (XP wasn't
supported at the time). It all seemed to go on ok and further work
pretty well without most of their bloat/shovel ware. ;-)
I guess they do and why I rarely opt in to such things. (Not quite
true as I went for Fuji cameras that often use xD cards (along with
Olympus) but that's not quite as bad as Sony's memory stick).

    Cheers, T i m

Some **** has 'upgraded' my BT wireless router overnight.
I now have three networks visible: WPA, WEP, and an unsecured Openzone
    network.
I don't know if I'm allowed to disable the Openzone network.
Zen question: is WEP secure if nobody is using it?

    Yes.
You were (allegedly...) given a choice as to whether to accept that
    "update".

More secure, but still not really.

    Turn everything bar WPA off.

Never got an email. I don't think my email address is registered with BT
as the company ordered and pays for my broadband.
Last time I tried I couldn't actually turn off WEP. It stopped
    advertising itself
but was still there, or something like that. I'd better RTFM again.

You can disable the Openzone. BT claim that Openzone traffic is low priority
and should not affect your own usage. Yea right.

It is capped at 512Kbps. That won't affect me living in the sticks
with the throughput of a wet string, on a good day.
I hope those sheep outside the window aren't using my broadband
    to look at woolly porn.
