I've heard that a set of SPECS cameras have just started
    operating between M11 J8 (Stansted) and J9 (A11).

These are the nasty cameras a few miles apart that work out your
    average speed.

I've a feeling they're front-facing so bikes are safe- can
    anyone confirm or deny that?

Late breaking news innit? I was told about them yesterday by a mate of
mine who happens to be commuting to Cambridge atm. He reckons they are
the sort that average your speed and see every way including straight up
your arse so you are nicked and will just have to live with it.

If you live in Watford, why would you want to go down the M11 to get to
    Gatwick?

    Just curious/being nosey like.

They are a good thing, it would put a stop of people going too fast
when slamming on the breaks when they spot a speed camera.

I never slow down by the breaks when I see the speed cameras, because I
    want them dangerous drivers & riders off the road(so I don't give-away
the position of the speed cameras)

Yes. They were being put in when I was heading north up there
on friday. I saw the lovely SPECS logo on the poles and knew
what they were straight away. They'd only just started putting
    the poles in.

Heading back south through there on monday and the whole
lot was up and running with a mixture of forward and rear
facing cameras. Some of the forward facing ones MAY be
covering the other carriageway, given the angle of mounting,
but don't take my word on this. Certainly the inside mounted
camera (of the two) was covering that side so would pick
    you up from the rear.

Typically the work that the cameras were covering hadn't
started yet with miles of coned-off carriageway for no
apparent reason. Shame they can't fix the road as quickly
as they can put up the cameras.
