    Ass!
You saw my Xena disklock, buy one. It's saved me 3 times already. Jump on
bike, pull upright, alarm sounds, slap helmet, dismount....

I have one of those - an XR-1, I think - and I hate it. Either it
doesn't arm itself at all or it arms itself but is so sensitive that
it goes off at the slightest thing. Have you had any issues like that
    with yours?

    TIA

No I don't have the Pikey -1, I have the "proper" XN18 and it rocks. The
    "Claw" chain adaptor rocks too.
As Darsy will testify you could quickly club a Water Buffalo to death with
    this fucker.

I've got the XN15, which is just a bit smaller, but just as secure and
actually fits under the 10R seat. Apparently it went off on it's own in
France after it'd been kicked a few times, but when it was just set and
left alone on the first day, it worked fine...

So long as it's seated right it's faultless, once it gets moved it's
    *very* sensitive.

I'm glad you said that as I was just about to buy an XN18. How tight
    a fit is it?

I don't know exactly, it'd probably go in but would leave little room
for other things, and other than the bulk, didn't appear to be any more
    secure really.

The XN15 is still sold secure, thatcham approved, etc. but just slightly
scaled down. So that's the one I went for.

I put an Oxford Omega in there at the mo and in it's case it pretty
much fills the space behind the tool kit.
    Makes sense.

The pin in the 18 is secured at both ends so it can't be levered open. Pin
is 18mm rather than 14mm. The size is roughly the same, the 18 is 2mm
deeper. The pin/lock is a separate part in the 18 and lifts right out to
remove. The body is slightly tougher.

Basically, for a few squid more I saw no reason not to take the top level
    product.

The lock body itself is a good inch longer though, which is where the
    bulk comes in.

It's not just a few quid though. The XN15 is 65 quid and the XN18 is
    100. I'm not convinced it's worth 40 quid more.

The othere thing is it's only a disc lock, if someone really wants the
bike they'll just put something over the alarm part to muffle the noise,
and lift the bike into the back of a van, and throw the front disk away
when they strip the bike. So, it's really about initially attracting
attention, and making the bike inconvenient for a casual thief. The
cheaper one does that well enough.

    My XN18 was £90 from HG and £25 isn't really a consideration.
To Ginge's point I add I also bought the CLAW to use with my chain
occasionally so it was worthwhile. If you are not doing that then the
smaller lock is probably more than ok.
