Are brake discs usually covered under warranty? Found out at Eastern Ck on
Friday that the '9 has a gawd awful shudder from the front discs when
braking hard at anything over about 150km/h. :( Makes turn 1
interesting; ...4th, 5th, 6th (270km/h or so), grab the brakes, *holy
crap!* get off the brakes!!, 5th, bugga, bugga, pucker factor 10....

Had a look at the discs after the first session and there's all these little
"dots" on the discs (about the same size as the vent holes) - looks like
little raised sections. What's my chances of Kwakka fixing it up? Can you
    machine bike discs?

Tried that, got 19 hits and the closest was something about a Laverda. Wanna
give us a bit more info (or a link?)

They are machinable but that will possibly get them close to their service
    limit.
If you're bike has the 6-pot tokicos (same as 98-01? 6R) then the standard
thickness is 4.85-5.15 mm and the sevice limit is 4.5 mm. So you can
imagine there really isn't too much to play with.
My discs started wearing funny with pronounced ruts running like record
grooves after the first set of pads but they still worked fine. Now I am
down to the service limit (a bit beyond actualy) but I'm going to hold out
until the pads wear out as after market discs cost $400 EACH and OEMs are
    anywhere up to double that.
I plan on looking into getting discs from a wrecker.

Oh yeah another thing I remeber hearing is that is there any evidence of you
ever having used a disc lock (rust patterns?) then they'll automaticcaly
blame that. I took off full throttle a couple of times on my ZZR250 with
the lock on and it developed a horrible low speed shudder.

    Actually it's a 2002 ZX9R so it's got 4 pot Nissin's. I'd say the
tolerances are pretty similar tho; 3/8's of 1/5 of bugger all.

  10. By all means, go for it, but I think you may be out of luck.

For starters, they will claim that the disks are a consumable, (with a
service limit and the like etc) which may or may not let them get away with
    it.

But, as soon as you say it doesn't happen till you are doing over 150km/h on
it, they will probably deny your warranty claim.

There are exclusions in there about all sorts track riding including track
days, and not just competition racing. And it will be a bit hard for you to
argue that they need to replace it because you are having trouble doing
40km/h over the limit on a public road.

I suppose you could always say "I went to the northern territory for a
    holiday and...."

I think you may be right on this point - although the irony of it is that
the machine is DESIGNED to travel at much higher speed than the safety
nazi's on NSW will let you.
Yeh - checked the warranty and the only exclusions (along the track-day
lines) are for damage that occurs in competitive riding in organised
competitions or events. I guess *how* they define 'competitive riding in
competitions or *events*' is the clincher.....they don't say that though.
    Yeh - I like that idea :p
