Washing machine down - anyone got a Hotpoint?

Big end went in spectacular fashion, requiring replacement of full
bearing assembly and outer plastic drum so basically it's beyond
economic repair.

That said, it has a new latest-spec brushless motor and controller
fitted under warranty in January. So is there any one out there with a
Hotpoint washing machine that could make use of them as spares then I
won't feel so bad about buying a new machine.

On a bike related note but totally unrelated to the subject line, I was
sent some photos today by my man at Honda. The first Repsol Blades have
arrived and very cute they look too.

chance of getting the pages dirty with my washing machine...

There've been several "opinions" expressed by courts regarding the
expected lifespan of domestic appliances...

 

5 and a half. Hotpoint, bless 'em do a 12 month full warranty and then a
parts warranty for the next 4 years, so you only pay a fixed
call-out/labour charge.

Agreed, but I don't think 5 years in a harsh domestic environment is too
bad (Horse was 18 months old when we got it and it has been working hard
ever since).

When I was having a look at Curry's I noted their figures on the wall
regarding the value of their extended warranties, and it looked as if
(broadly) on average everyone with a washing machine warranty had 1.5
problems resolved during the warranty. Rather than suggesting to me that
this makes the warranty great value, it suggests to me that washing
machines are not built for the job.

I've not opted for an extended warranty on the new Bosch.

A mate fixes washing machines and he reckoned that Bosch's back-up isn't so
good. I have to see our Bosch stuff has been excellent.

 

Does it say what to do if, after a wild night of vigorous shagging, you find
a circlip on the bedroom floor?

 

We had a Bauknecht a number of years ago. First breakdown out of warranty
was difficult and expensive. Second breakdown, it got trebuchetted in
favour of a nice, basic, old-technology Hotpoint.

You reckon? Work it out. £120 a year. How many times have you had to
call a repairman out for something less than five years old? I don't
think this has ever hapenned to me in the twenty-something years I've
been a householder. OK, so I've done a couple of repairs myself that
may be beyonds some people, but within five years? I don't think so.

Insurance is always a con, let's face it, and in this case you'd
obviously be able to pay for repair (or replacement) of any of the
above articles if you can afford that much per year.

If you really must, put the money into a savings account rather than
these rip-off schemes. I guarantee[1] you'll end up better off if you
do.


[1] Or I would, if you'd pay me half of your savings.

 

Had all Bauknecht kitchen stuff in the last house I had in MK. Not
sure if it was supposed to be a premium brand, but it was really quite
shit.

And Hotpoints are just rebranded Bosch products...

We had a Zannussi which no-one could fix after it's computer went wonky.

Binned it and got one off freeads.co.uk for 30 quid in spandy order which has
worked fine for the last two years.

 

I bought a fecking cheap indesit, about 11 years ago. It's never gone
