I like the look of TomTom Go but it does not appear waterproof.

I do not want something that is too small.

    I bought a

Does what it says on the tin
Although I have copied the Tom Tom software to a much larger SD Card to
allow postcode and dialling code lookup and other POI details to be added

and it might be worth looking at for a cover

I got a Garmin GPSmap 60CS. It's got lots of neat functions on it, and
can be setup for walking, boating, flying and driving / riding and
geocache. It comes with a basic map, but extra maps are expensive
although I forget how much exactly. It floats if dropped into water and
is as rugged as they come.

I'm thinking of selling, but only if things get really tight, as I like
    it a lot.

Is the Garmin Quest too small for you? Works fine for me.

    Not sure, it looks small.
Have yet to see one in the flesh.

Problem is, I want big for car and small for bike.
99% of use will be in car.

It isn't huge - it fits in a pocket. I use its car kit on the bike. I
can hear its speaker at full welly even with earplugs in (though I get
some strange glances in Central London) and can see the screen fine,
even though it should be too near for my driving glasses. It auto-zooms
when near a turn, with BIG THICK graphics, and can hold the whole of the
UK and Western Europe down to the tiniest detail.

It doesn't allow direct input of postcodes. :( But streetmap.co.uk
sorts out the odd one you don't have an address for. It knows 99% of
all addresses (number, street) in the geographical area that's loaded.

There is a 'bike holder out now, but not yet a properly engineered 'bike
power/audio lead, which is why I still use the car kit. I'm not sure
I'd bother to change now anyway.

I've scrapped my Ipaq now in favour of the Orange SPV C500 mobile phone
(Free upgrade with Orange on contract)
with TomTom Bluetooth receiver (£ 45 on ebay at the moment)

The phone sits in my pocket with headset routed into my helmet as I dont
really need to see the map on screen
bonus is the alarm sounds near Gatso's, SPECS etc..
Works really well. adn I get to hear a phone call coming in too....

Cool, how much memory do you need in the C500 for it to work?

In that case, get a Tom Tom Go for the car, and use a map on the bike.

Trying to get something in between is likely to just leave you disappointed
with both - too big on the bike so it either gets in the way or blocks your
view and missing features such as voice for when you're in the car.

128Mb will hold the whole UK Maps
but stick a 256Mb in (they're only £ 20) and you have space spare for all
those ringtones copied from MP3's to WMA

Yeah, I read the write ups after I got it.
I suppose HP are happy that they managed to bundle it with a load of 3rd
party software and some gadgetry to be able to sell it.
Although for a SatNav unit with a larger SD card in it works very well.
Saved me hours of driving around by finding more efficient routes and as I
drive a couple of hundreds miles a week around SE Lon/NW Kent/Essex it's
    helpful.

You could use an Ipaq with the Otterbox (Watertight box with gel touch
    screen on front
    http://www.otterbox.com/product.cfm?product=164&code=NA
Somewhere there's one with a motorcycle mounting bracket also

I don't normally pay much attention to the GPS threads as I've been on
the receiving end of GPS navigation but I'm intrigued.

I have a C500 - how does that work as a GPS thingummy?
