The local authority that I am currently on placement with use Websense to
stop me looking at gmail, google groups etc. Fair enough, I can understand
    an anti-slacking policy.

However, in it's wisdom the filter has decided to block anything from
direct.gov.uk which is really handy when you want to look up qualifying
    criteria for attendance allowance.

*Nice*. Actually, while trying to SORN the BMW earlier this evening, my
Avira webfilter blocked access to the main direct.gov.uk site because
it was supposedly under suspicion of spreading malware or something.

    why?

I "work" for a dept. that has a .gov.uk domain. Why would another .gov.uk
domain be blocked, especially the main tool for dissemination of government
    information.

I found our web filter blocked a lot of sites with 'knife' in the
content - which is handy when you're looking for info. on safe working
    practices and PPE for butchers.
