Hi- I and some people from work are thinking of doing a ride on Skyline during lunch some weekday... from Saratoga up to Alice's and back, say. Does anyone here do the same thing? If so, how is traffic, cops, bicyclists, etc... We aren't out to strafe, just to go on a nice ride. I never really go up there on the weekends anymore, because the last three times I was there, I almost hit a deer, and had two separate incidents where bicyclists cut across the lane in front of me--- the first one was luck that I didn't hit someone, and the second time, I knew the bastard was going to do it, so I anticipated him doing it. So I just get pissed even thinking about going up there anymore, but that's just me (getting olde and mortal). If I were a squid, I'd think I had the whole mountain to myself (relatively), and I don't want to get hit by some jackass coming around the corner in my lane. Also, if I were a cop, I might think a lunchtime patrol would be the perfect time to catch such people... thanks for any input. Z.
its quiet and nice up there on weekends, even on a sunny warm day. only a few riders of the more serious variety, and just local traffic, hardly much of it at all.
^^^^^^^^ I think John meant "weekdays". I went riding in the hills prety regularly when I was out of work. Very little traffic of any sort. -B
During the week is the only time I will ride there. Its quite nice and peaceful, just a few riders at the corner store, chat for awhile and then ride back to DC. Go for it!
Thanks for the replies. Sounds like a go. Maybe we'll make a habit out of it. Good place to break in the newbies, too.
The M/C'ers at Stanford do Friday lunch rides to Alice's - we've been slacking a bit but should have one this week (I'll remind alls y'all in case ya want to join us. We usually meet in the parking lot by the West Residences & Driving Range: on Campus Dr West about 100m from Junipero Serra). If you are interested in motorcycling @ Stanford (or joining us on scheduled rides) the e-mail list is: John Beck
