Go on, call me old fashioned but I prefer good old gas welding for minor
repairs especially in thinish metal. A few years ago I bought one of those
BernsOmatic portable gas welding jobbies. It wasn't expensive and worked OK
providing you didn't weld for more than 5 minutes. If you, the Oxy would run
out. My Oxy has all gone and do you think I can find a replacement? Not a
    chance.

I have a few little jobs to do on my GSX that require welding and brazing
(not the tank) any ideas? Or does anyone have a little gas rig the wish to
    sell (v.cheap)/hire or otherwise?

Funnily enough I was looking for one of those myself on Sunday. Neither
of the usual suspects (Halfords & Motorsave) seem to stock them anymore.

I have the MAPP gas if that's any good to you. But I know the OXY goes
    first.

    Thread Hijack:

Hypothetically, if you had a friend who had heard that the local
council were considering placing a bottle bank close to his back
garden and he wanted to weld the fucker shut one night. What equipment
would you suggest this friend used?

Seeing as many of them are pre-formed plastic, he might want to get some
more plastic and just epoxy it over the hole...

Well, you're obviously sorted, but I'm pretty sure that D Mackay's in
Cambridge still do them, so other big hardware places prolly do too.

Well, I wouldn't in this case 'cos it's rather more anti-social than I
would do, but if it's polythene then it is technically possible to do
it with a MAPP gas torch and some offcuts of the same plastic, if
you're very patient. I once welded up a polythene beer keg that way.

You have to wave the flame at the weld site for a few seconds - just
enough to see the surface melt - then wait rather more seconds for the
heat to penetrate, then repeat ad boredom until you have a weld
"puddle" and then add filler (and keep heating intermittently) in the
    usual way.

Maybe you should speak to this friend regarding
their alcohol consumption, as this obviously was
the driver for the bottle bank in the first place.

Or, if it has some kind of lid/flip arrangement,
drill two holes and use any old chain and lock.
Putting superglue in the key hold might also work
    a treat.
