First road bike (CB175), first (legal) time on the road. I'd done about 50
miles, down the peninsula and back. What I didn't know was that it wasn't
charging, and the battery was running the ignition total loss. What I did
know was that the bike was getting a bit reluctant, and I really didn't want
to close the throttle until I got home. This is how I ended up overtaking
when I should have been braking...

Basically, I overtook a car that was turning right into a minor road, and
ended up in the gutter, the hospital, the cop shop etc. Bugger.

Probably, the car was about 18 months old.

  3. Heh. A friend of mine was pissing around on a ShiteOldScooter on the
road outside his Mum's garage when he hit a bump, jerked the throttle,
lost his balance and slammed into the garage wall at full twat, just
missing a burly passer-by who slapped him.

To add insult to injury, the front wheel and forks were utterly fucked.

Couldn't start the Trophy one day on the ground level of an underground
car park. Rode it down about 10 ramps attempting to start it.

Finally run out of ramps.....have you any idea how heavy a Trophy is?

Not a learner ****-up, but still good.

I don't see the point of it either. I've started bikes without jumping
on; in fact, I can't start them by bumping if I do jump on!

Sixteen years old, bombing down a hill on my *ahem*cc 'moped',
completely ignoring the 'Police Slow' signs at the side of the road.
Spy plod standing in the middle of the road[1], who then raises his
hand inviting me to stop. I did - eventually - after flying past him
with a locked back wheel & terrified look on my face. Luckily I only
    got a bollocking.

Just call me Buster Gonad, I still remember trying to shove that thing
back up to ground level. Deep breath, shove, apply brake, a few minutes
of red flashing lights, deep breath, start again.

Funny enough I'm very aware of slopes now, I always park it at the top,
    just in case :)

Surely you've not managed to do that with any bike with a reasonably
    sized engine?

Anyway, I shouldn't talk about bump starts since I have a particular
    'history' here.

The Wing, Blackbird, CBRthou and KH500 don't/didn't require any
    jumping nonsense.

    remains of the baglux buckles.

Blimey. Well, I guess it's learned knowledge rather than experienced
knowledge although I'm sure I've tried this in the past and failed since
even in second the rear tyre's slid without weight on it rather than
    turned the engine.

    Hmm. Must try this.

All 3 of my four-stroke Kawasakis did, though.

I'd suggest that the wing is probably putting sufficient weight on the
    rear tyre on its own.
