My Duke hasn't been it's self for a few weeks now and today I discovered why. I went out for a blast at lunchtime and on the way back the Y piece on the exhaust broke. It had sheared completely in two on the left hand side just after the weld where the two parts of the Y split from the single pipe, effectively giving me an 18" long straight through exhaust. It attracted quite a bit of attention riding back through Norwich but thankfully there were no coppers about, not that I'd have been able to hear them - my hearing still feels like I've been to a concert after 15 miles of riding like it. Having removed it this evening it's obviously been split along the inside on the weld line for a while but this wasn't visible until it was removed. I've now replaced it with the original part (the broken one was the KTM "performance" Y piece) and all is back to normal. I suppose it's because it was a gradual deteriation (well apart from when it actually broke completely) but it'a amazing just how different it feels now.
