Presumably you'd also have to exclude the summer-only bikers during
the winter months, which would limit the number of posts to a mere
    handfull.

Absolutely. No posting unless you've ridden a motorbike in the last
month, or you've got a letter from your Mam saying you're not well
    enough.

I think it leaves them with a stigma.

I imagine any funeral corsages would cause a few PTS-related
    incidents.

    As a short-arsed 18-year-old riding my sister's boyfriend's XT500 I
    *needed* the sight glass.

He also had an XJ650(?[1]) which was an equally brutish start. He used
to start that fine (as he was 6ft & >15 stone) without decompressing,
until the day it kicked back, snapping the kick-start where it clamped
to the toothed spur. He was wearing Good thick 'crosser boots and
didn't realise what had happened for a second or so ...

.... until the kickstart lever speared the tank[2]. I can still picture
the look on his face. ;)

    [1] It was a ~650 Yamaha single.

  9. How about the ones who still have a bike but haven't ridden it for 9
    months?

    Just out of interest like.

You miss the point. The best position to kickstart was not where the
    marker came into sight.
I'm guessing that you mean an XS650, which was a twin. They never made
    a 650cc single.

    Let's see...

    "Dear Mr Yookay-Arem,

Ace has been feeling a bit poorly recently, so please excuse him from
anything that involves riding one of those nasty scary motorbike things.

    Signed,

    His Mummy"

    I don't think that counts...

No wonder it was still a fucker to start. ;) I seem to recall that the
sight glass would bring it to just *before* TDC and an extra 1/8th
turn with the valve open would make it easier to start.

Myself, I went for the XT550, with electric start. ;)
Come to think of it, it was a twin ... <googles> ... and it would have
been the XS650 Special. He was always into things like the Z750(Ltd)
    rather than the Z750.
