The BMW is leaking oil from the front powershock all over the exhaust today at an amazing 50 miles on the clock. Looks an easy enough swapout for them? I'll use the event to my advantage. -- 'I'll be back......' Nige Subaru WRX (54) Land Rover Discovery II BMW GS1200 2007 2000 Suzuki GSX1300R Y Hayabusa
Can't be that bad surely, I expect some warranty work, but christ, 50 miles. At least I'm dealing with a decent BMW garage or so it seems. -- 'I'll be back......' Nige Subaru WRX (54) Land Rover Discovery II BMW GS1200 2007 2000 Suzuki GSX1300R Y Hayabusa
If it *is* that bad, it goes back post haste! I'll be right fecked off if it does have to go back, it rides sweet. Bit snatchy on the throttle, but i'll get used to that. -- 'I'll be back......' Nige Subaru WRX (54) Land Rover Discovery II BMW GS1200 2007 2000 Suzuki GSX1300R Y Hayabusa
Nige says... If it's snatchy on the throttle then it's not sweet. Why do people defend BMW so much when they produce shite like this. "But I expected a few warranty issues..." I fucking don't - if I buy a new or newish bike I expect it to be trouble free. I'd say 95% of the used bikes I've owned have had well over 25K miles recorded and they've pretty much all given me less hassle than the average new BMW we hear about here.
If I paid £3,000 for a new car then if something went wrong very, very soon after purchase I'd be annoyed but would think "but it's a cheap car" but if I paid £13,000 for a new car and something went wrong as quickly I'd be livid.
When i say the throttle is a bit snatchy, it's probably the fact it's shaft drive & I'm used to chain, you just have to be a bit less harsh on it. I am seriously fucked off & believe me, they will get a fucking rocket, but as I say, I will gain from the event. I feel a nice new free BMW enduro helmet in large will suffice, or i'll give it 'em back there & then. It was an expensive bike & I sure as shit didnt expect anything major, a leaking damper is, so far, 20 minutes to replace & on your way. When i say i expect warranty issues, I am used to driving Land Rovers..... Funny, the most reiable car i have *ever* owned is the Subaru, not one issue in 36,00 hard miles. I'm not defending them either, if i get anything serious, it goes back, end of story. I wont make excuses for some **** that charges serious money for summat that wont do what it says on the tin. -- 'I'll be back......' Nige Subaru WRX (54) Land Rover Discovery II BMW GS1200 2007
wessie says... So buy a better engineeered bike then, one with sensible sized cylinders without these inherent problems. I say get angry with the dealers, they're the ones who decided to take on the franchise and everything that goes with it. In fact I'd get angry enough to throw the festering pile of shit back at them and take a full refund.
No reason to get arsey, just diplomatically forceful. Never thought of it in the Physics way, good point. I do like the way it shakes side to side slight;y on low revs, the pistons going at it etc. The shaft drive does induce a slight amount of sideways force too, minimal, but again, I like that! -- 'I'll be back......' Glad you find it funny, Jap bikes just dont have soul to me, apart from the ZZR & Hayabusa I have had. I have ridden gixxers that i hated, fireblades that i could have skipped & pretty much any enduro type bike is *miles* too small for me. I do like the Africa Twin, but they are getting old. I want a bike with a warranty as I'm great with Land Rovers, but shit with bikes. If this goes to shit, it's a KTM 990 Adventure for me I think. The only downside is, they are fucking horrible to ride distance on that seat. -- 'I'll be back......' Nige Subaru WRX (54) Land Rover Discovery II BMW GS1200 2007 2000 Suzuki GSX1300R Y Hayabusa
Oh fer fook's sake, it's not like you haven't been told. What advantage? Being able to use another bike?
No, they all do that to a certain extent and the bigger the engine, the worse it gets. Good luck with that, and given my experience with BMW dealers - can I have some of what you've been smoking? But it does...
<opens mouth> <closes mouth> etc. But, but... -- platypus "Merely corroborative detail, intended to give artistic verisimilitude to an otherwise bald and unconvincing narrative.”
You haven't ridden anywhere near enough, then, have you? And it's funny because you were warned, warned again and then re-warned, and you thought you knew better. Remember, with ukrm: there's *always* someone who knows more than you do on any given subject[1], unless you're the acknowledged expert in that particular field. [1] And usually several. As in this case.
