    Hiya Corks.
You'll probably be able to pick up a 2000 Hornet 600S (half faired) for
around $5 thou, Will be able to pick up 97-98 Hornet 600 (naked) for less.

    Go to

    http://www.tradingpost.com.au

enter the price range of 4500-6000 and see what comes up...

it's too long a list - basically anything made before about 1995 that
hasn't been fully restored (and even some of those), plus a number of
    things made in the last 10 years - Hornets, VX800, SV650, 90's 600
Supersports, TRX, many of the larger nakeds (XJR,VTR etc) particularly
if they have a few K's on them etc etc

    and a horde of others.

A TRX yammy 850.. these things are often over looked i recon as a great 2nd
hand ride. Enough grunt without being over the top.

Well with the ZR-7 it's a 4. It's very comfy and has a nice none crippling
riding position. Can easly do long days on the road with this bike. It's
sporty enough to have fun with out going warp speeds. The pillion seat is
wide and comfortable for pillions. As for it's reliability the motor is the
same as the old air cooled GPz motors which have been described as
bulletproof (As read on websites). The only thing I would change is to have
better brakes up front. New fluid and pads might sort that out. Another
good point is that it's not a Honda ;)

Yeah it is - trying to get enough info out of ya that is !
GSX750F. new one is only 10 or 11K so you can get a good one for that
money. It's the obvious choice on those parameters.

VFR if you can get a good one for the money (they hold their value well).

    XJ900

ZZR600 (you said over 600 so prob not)

    Hornet 600

    Older big bores - ZZR11, FJ12 etc Bandit 600 or Bandit12 ?
