Quite. Can you seriously imagine what'd happen if people went around
    taking notice of you?

Hmmm, not quite so sure aout that. I mean, in conditions where
traction/stability control are actively in use, like driving in snow,
one will go faster because it's possible, but I don't think I'd drive
any differently knowing I had airbags, ABS, SIPS, etc. than otherwise.

That's been hypothesised for ages, based on our own simulations and the
need for a certain variable to be very very specific for the universe to
have expanded just like it did. Enter, the concept of the multiverse.

How fucking dangerous does this thing look (esp. without the nose bit):

If only I had the cash....

On the road I took things a lot more gingerly in an old 944 for these
reasons, specifically the lack of ABS. Sure, with practice, you can
brake about as hard on a wet road, but in the "sudden appearance of dozy
    ****" scenario I think not.

  10. Eh? He is doing what Bush tells him. It isn't his war at all. At least
Thatcher can claim that the Falklands was her war and the British forces
went in and sorted it out. However the Falklands are not Iraq which
shows how crazy it was and still is for us to be in Iraq and
Afghanistan. There is no way that Britain can "win" either of these wars
    - we do not have the men or resources.

The sooner we get our troops out of these places the better for us - I'm
afraid I've given up caring about what happens to the Iraqis or Afghans.
The Afghans seem to be beyond help regardless of who invades their
country to "stabilise" it while the Iraqis really want three countries
to satisfy their tribal and religious leanings.

Your not that dim, I know
    They attacked us too
We are not trying to, just giving the more secular forces the chance to
    organise. *They* might fail, granted
    Harsh indeed

    carry on recovering x
i really don't like the thought that the supplier of one of my best
memorable rides might be closed down.

that's what they told me when i had lumps carved out, then they took the
stuff away, the bastards. claimed i wasn't breathing enough.
    cost-cutting excuse, i reckon.

  15. I once had a go in a microlight (basically a canoe with a wing attached
and a pusher motor at the rear). At one point the instructor told me to
lean out and look down - 2000ft of clear air between us and the ground.
My comment led him to suggest that maybe microlights were not for me[1].

I did enjoy the 'skimming over the fields at 100ft altitude' bit though
    - a very similar rush to riding a bike fast!

    Phil.

I wa also a tad worried when he made an offhand comment about not
flying too low over Lyneham on the basis that a Herc pilot probably
wouldn't even notice the small judder if he hit us..

Well it's not quite true that there's _no_ upper limit, but it's way
higher than would normally be used for a painkilling dose.

Thing that surprised me was that modern thinking doesn't seem to be
overly concerned about possible dependency - I've just been prescribed
60 days worth, although I suggested that we did it in smaller tablets,
so I can reduce it as the pain levels (hopefully) fall. But it's been
as much at my initiation as the medics that we've reduced from 2*70mg
to 2*30mg in the last week. (That's of "MST" so is equivalent to half
    that dose of simple morphine).
My breathing was of some concern for a while, due to pain and fluid
buildup, but the advice there was to take more, not less, morphine to
allow the pain levels to subside and allow a fuller chest expansion.
In the UK, I guess, so yeah, probably.

On the back of me riding Ginge's ZRX? Was quite a nice day out,
weren't it? Still can't get over being overtaken by a well-ridden
Hardly on one twisy mountain section. I wanted to find the guy and
congratulate him :) I was actually tempted to blast after him, but
didn't particularly want to lose you off the back.

  19. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Switters belched forth and ejected the following:
I remember one night when I was doing loads of acid with this burd, I
actually had the answer to everything and within a millisecond it was
    gone.

    I was fucking gutted.

  20. Ah - but then you might actually have a leader that wanted to do things
based on principle rather than political expediency. And who knows
where that might end! Heavens - you might actually change society
rather than merely reflecting the issue of the moment.

    Phil.
