What have I done?

    Hiya all,

    I have a bit of a project on the go...

    I am currently trying to tie down what is causing the bike to cut out
    (briefly and intermittently) and as a result am posting here as a last
    resort before I go for a complete rewire over the winter...

    I have a GPz1100 B2 which has had what Im told are ZX7 Front and rear ends
    added. (Please comment if you know better...)

    I can only narrow this down to either wiring being old and mouldy or the ECU
    on its way out...

    I am not in a position to be able to pay a mechanic to stand round for hours
    looking at her just to tell me (300 quid later) that he thinks its
    electrical, and would welcome any advice at all

    Are there any support groups out there which specialise in the old GPz1100
    B2?
    Can my hybrid still be called a GPz? ;-)

    Remove the sidestand cut out switch if its still fitted, check the kill
    switch is in the correct number of pieces.

    Talk to a Kawasaki main dealer about getting the FI control unit and the
    ignitor checked. Won't cost much to get them checked. Much much cheaper
    than rewiring only to find one or the other is iffy.

    If they check out, then play 'hunt the fractured cable' and 'hunt the
    corroded connector deep in the bowels of the bike'

    Oh, I forgot to mention,

    1. I want to keep the fuel injection
    2. I have removed the sidestand cutout and bypassed it

    Yebbut, still not that much. There's no magic - you just have to
    check (and re-check) everything.

    Worth a try... will just have to wait and see what suggestions kawasaki get
    back to me with...

    but I have a couple of questions!

    I noticed on the wiring diagram for the FI that all 4 injectors are linked
    to the same wire exiting the ECU, (now I havent double checked this on the
    bike yet, but I will) Surely firing 4 injectors simultaneously is just
    wasteful? or lazy? or a very rough wiring diagram... Anyway...

    Does anyone know of a source of ECUs and Injectors for me baby (GPz1100b2)
    and if so any idea what prices I would expect to pay ?

    No, it's true - all the injectors fire together. Even at low rpm (say
    1200 - nice easy number...), the engine is going thru its induction
    phase 20 times a second - the atomisation of the fuel is more a
    continuous activity, varying by quanity, rather than a set of discrete
    events.
    Tough one. Many of them failed over the years due to weather ingress
    and the like. There are a few specialised Kawasaki breakers, but you
    may struggle :-(

    Bugger...

    Just found a guy who does ECU diagnosis but dont know anything about him,
    based in upton on the wirral...

    Gonna run the bike over there tomorrow and see what happens there!
