I (cleverly) backed it into the drive, so it was pointing uphill. This
evening, as I was giving it a little pre-MOT[1] fettle, I decided to put it
on the centrestand. Could I get it off again? Could I ****. Even putting
it in gear, revving up and rocking backwards produced nothing but noise and
burnt-rubber smells. I eventually had to get Sarah to shove at the back
while I strained at the front.

It was better without the smell of burning rubber.

I have owned heavy motorcycles before, you know.
Maybe later, when I'm bored of this one.
I took off the not-yet-connected spotlights, and the hiway pegs I couldn't
quite reach, pumped up the tyres (there was only 20psi front and rear, so no
wonder it was a bit iffy on the run home), and replaced the whiskery strands
of scorched copper wire in the main fuse with a decent bit of solid-core.
    How could it fail?

No you haven't - you've owned quite heavy motorcycles before.

    There is a difference.
Indeed. Shall I take the "Big Bike Parts" Catalogue to Chimay? :)

I can see you are going to have fun in Chimay, just make sure you
don't flip this one, or give it a little lay down on the grass. I hate
to think how heavy it will be when you have it fully loaded with
    Chimay's finest.

I couldn't possibly speculate that it may have been Platy who was
    loaded with Chimay's finest |-)

Well, it's suddenly a lot easier to cope with. I checked the front
suspension pressure, with should have been in the 0 - 6 psi range. What it
actually was, was 37 psi. On zero, I can comfortably flat-foot it, and it
doesn't bump up and down so abruptly at the front.
    Passed easily.
Jesus no. I might be tempted.

    Far too heavy to flip.
