What MX boots should I buy?

It teed it down on the way home tonight[1]. I stayed completely dry
    except for my boots.

I've decided I need a pair of MX boots for the winter. Recommendations?

[1]My visor stayed beautifully clear after applying the magic spray from
Infinity. The finger v-wipe thing worked well too, but was only needed
    at slow speeds.

Yes, don't get MX boots, they're not waterproof. Winter boots are the
one thing that Frank Thomas do very well, unless they've fucked those
up too in the last few years.

    Interesting, I thought they were.

    These are the offenders:

I see you posted in there too. They're about as waterproof as a hairnet.

Or go for the ultimate in halfway house boots... Sidi Couriers.

    Waterproof[1] and very solid.

[1] Until the water runs down your leg and seeps through the
elasticated top part, which will happen after about 3 hours on an
    unfaired bike riding through thunderstorms.

They don't look like they were ever meant to be waterproof, with
exposed zips & perforated leather. They're obviously summer rather than
winter boots, so probably shower proof at best.

I've got some FT Voyagers, 10 years old & have never let the slightest
    hint of water in.

Yes I was looking at those in Infinity today - they did look pretty chunky.
    Leaky trousers?

Daytona Trans Open GTX (as they are now called) are uberboots. Not
quite as tall as my Sidi Raptors, but certainly a tall uberboot that
    remains dry and toasty.

one of my best mates is an enduro rider. If you called him a MX rider he
would remove your liver and use it as dog food.

This is the route I'd be taking.

Get the top of the range touring boot rather than MX because they're
not heavy and why do you need MX boots for road riding?

    I have some HG Rallye

They've never let in a drop. They are a bit snug around the toe box, so
if you want to save some cash and have nominal size 12 feet, they could
    be yours.

  17. Whatever happened to Derriboots? Tried buying a pair last winter, and no
bike shop seems to stock them any more.

Tried the local huntin', shootin' and fishin' shop, too, and they'd
    never even heard of them

Probably because they offer similar protection to a wet paper bag.

As has been mentioned: choose Goretex, then choose boots that have it
    and fit properly.

Plus, stopping the water dribbling down your leg and into the boot
    means overtrousers.
