If someone is considering a late model bike with damage they're going to want
a considerable discount for the scratches, probably more than $700.

Last time I crashed at 100kph it was on a public road and I slid across the
oncoming lane which a 4WD came down about 5-10 seconds later... and I didn't
do any damage to my back. Lucky I wasn't on a track..

  8. You know how it goes... the bigger they are, the more bullshit they spin, or
    something along those lines...

Given my experience with the used bike market, selling a damaged bike
isn't an easy task. One of the first questions people ask, "has it been
dropped?". If you say yes, they immediately drop their offering price. If
it's been dropped and not repaired, you'll either get the vultures
looking to score a cheap bike at your expense, or you won't get anyone
    calling.

Best to get it repaired, then put it on the market. And if they ask, be
honest, but add, but it doesn't show, does it?

I saw some in the trading post. One was around $11,500 with 3,000 km on
    the clock. 2002 model.

Bikepoint has a few listed. Priced between $13k and $15k.

Redbook, if that's any guide suggests $11,800 to $14,000 for the 2002
    model (assuming that your's is).

    Exactly.

My impression of used bike buyers, especially young blokes looking at
sports bikes, is that they want an immaculate near new bike with ****
all kays on it for or less than its new price value.

And god help the fellow who's trying to sell a sports tourer type with
more than 20,000 km on the clock. The bike's fucked. Will cost a fortune
to overhaul. Tell ya what, mate. I'll put you outta your misery and take
it off your hands if you pay ME to haul it away for you.
