....a CRT monitor. Old and small (15" I think).

In my single handed bid to keep the UK economy going, I took delivery
of a 22" wide screen LCD monitor today. Which means my previous LCD
monitor becomes 'the spare', and the CRT is surplus to requirements.

I'd give it away, if I knew where to give it. Last time I tried to
give an iron to the charity shops, they all refused it saying they
could no longer accept electrical products, due to some liability
    concern (sheesh).

    Anyone got any ideas?

Here in Paris, we leave stuff like that on the street in front of our
block. It sounds 'antisocial', but not everyone can afford 25" screens
and what have you. The next day (often the same day), the screen is
    gone.

Is the default option. Just seems a shame, is all, to throw out a
    functioning bit of kit.
    Hotel room, surely?

Freecycle it, someone will take it.

The same would be true in most parts of the uk.
In quite a few though , it wouldn't have travelled far - just long enough
for someone to find somewhere to throw it

A mate and his bird are experts at walking around their neighbourhood,
picking up stuff. As they're both very artistic and good with their
hands, they'll often nab old chests of drawers etc., and do 'em up.
Sand them down, varnish them etc. Probably 20% of their pad is recycled
stuff, and lovely it is, too.

If there's a university nearby (preferably one with a CompSci and/or
Electronics department) someone should be more than willing to take it.

There's squillions of functioning 15" CRT monitors get lobbed every
single day. No bugger wants 'em - and who can blame 'em, when you can
    have a known-brand widescreen 20" 1680x1050 flat panel for less than a
    ton including VAT...?

  10. Somebody has already suggested Freecycle which is how I got rid of mine,
you can specify you'd prefer a charity to take it. Our local
tip/recycling centre takes the monitors separately, but I doubt they do
much with them except break them down into recyclable parts.

I've tried on more than one occasion to get rid of a 15" CRT via
    Freecycle without success.

    In communiqué
Usually, but not always round here. I did manage to unload a big
handlebar mounted screen off the Mille outfit on Freecycle a while back
though. A pity, it would have been just the job for one of the
    Elephantines.

    Good luck.

We cant give them away, and we have had up 21" pro models that we have
had to skip in the past.

Leave it outside with a label saying For Sale 20 pounds. A price
is important, the chavs wont nick it if its free.

Well, given the general lack of ideas for getting rid of the CRT (I
will try Freecycle), then I spose I could crow about the new monitor.

    It's one of these: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/150174

Bloody good it is, and with free delivery the price is less than I
payed for my 17" LCD a couple of years ago. 22" must be the sweet
spot for price/performance, as there's a selection under 130 quid,
whereas the cheapest 24" (on ebuyer, anyway) is over 200.

Now, what other windows can I cram onto the screen...

Admit it. You only bought it because of the image on display.

Well, when comparing a couple of options that seemed to have the same
spec and approx price, I did go for the manufacturer that sponsors
    bike racing.

I'm in exactly the same position. The 22" LCD 'monitor' is actually a
TV, because it serves an XBox too. The CRT is still sitting on the
'office' floor. It does seem a terrible waste to just bin it, which is
    why it's still there.
