guys my wr200 started playing up a bit towards the end of my last ride.
Louder idle, with very noticeable 2 stroke cracking noise (not a *bad*
sort of cracking noise, just a sort of unmuffled 'ding'. sounds kinda
like a lot of worn out kids 2 strokes)
less bottom end power, more noticeable midrange hit, and doesn't rev out
as well. sounds louder and a bit crappier most of the time.
Things on my to do list are: check exhaust packing, check powervalve
setting. (electric whizz bang powervalve on these things)
Any other thoughts on what'd cause my symptoms? I can't see any cracks
in the exhaust or anything like that.

right, easily diagnosed. No need to panic folks. Powervalve cable has
    snapped.

how old is it ?. does it get regularly serviced ?. do you ride it hard
or are you putting it around ?. it's a single isn't it ?. do you premix
fuel or is it self mixing ?. is it running or hotter/colder than usual ?.

i would be replacing spark plug. the condition of it will tell you
    quite a lot as well.
i've never heard of this.. so my knowledge on modern 2's are a bit out.

    reed value ?.

2's are simple. assuming that the block, piston, crack case isn't
leaking, you are looking at plugs, timing, fueled mixture, failed
carberettor, dirty fuel, blocked fuel filter..... the 2's i've
seen normally have a spring loaded header fitting on the engine
block. if it's louder, maybe you could check that the header is
    firmly attached ?..

having failed all that, get a mechanic to have a look.
