What's a Gixxer Thou really worth then?

Been watching eBay auctions as a barometer of what a GSXR 1000 K3on might be
had for in the current climate. The latest two ended thus "reserve not
    met"

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=280136484386&rd=1&rd=1

    Current bid: £2,050.00
    Reserve not met

    Buy It Now: £3,950.00

    Ended: 29-Jul-07

    History: 5 bids

    http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI....MEWA:IT&viewitem=&item=260142098780&rd=1&rd=1

    Current bid: £2,700.00
    Reserve not met

    Buy It Now: £3,250.00

    Ended: 28-Jul-07

    History: 4 bids

I'm glad I'm not trying to shift one but I'd like to meet someone with a
good example and desperate to sell for what the market will bear!

Shit, a snowstorm of "reserve not met" for K3's. The market wants them for
    under £3000 it seems...

But thats ebay. Every bidder on there wants a cheap bargain. Whats
the MCN ads like, or Biketrader? Calls to find out if they've gone or
what they've been offered won't cost much if you have some free time.

I know where there's a cosmetically-damaged[1] one soon to be
    available...

FWIW the insco valued it at 10000 francs, so just over 4 grand
sterling, which I thought was fair.

[1] As it happens, it looked like it'd be quite rideable, although I
suspect that the rear subframe may also have been twisted (I know the
front was from being knocked over in a Paris carpark when only a few
weeks old) as well as needing all the plastics, rear light assembly
    and indicators/mirrors all round.

My rating is only 37 on ebay, I've bought and sold stuff but not
loads. It is a bit of lucky dip sometimes. I try to work on the old
adage of Something is only worth what someone is willing to pay for
it. Thats why I wondered if people in the paper based ads are actually
    selling.

I bought a TL1000S on ebay. Twas a nice bike I thought, then the
    gearbox went.
Ha, good question. If things continue then I may have to sell to fund
life. But at the moment it's being cared for by Carole Nash's
    mechanics. I WANT IT BACK!

I would disagree with that, there are few bargains on ebay these days
and I would suggest that the ebay market is sufficiently mature to
reflect the true market value for a quick, guaranteed[1] sale. Clearly
if a seller is prepared to wait, and put in some more effort, then
better prices can be achieved through other selling media but even
then I would argue that, for many buyers, ebay is becoming the
    benchmark for resale prices.

[1] For ebay values of guaranteed, of course.

    Hmm well........

Y'see cosmetically rough and very cheap would do me. It isn't likely to
    survive in standard form.

OIC. Yes, sure. I didn't get it, as that was, as I'm sure you realise,
not my intended meaning. If nothing else it now belongs to the
    insewerants peeps, not me.

I'd be tempted by that if the insurance wasn't quite so hideous. I'd
quite like a gixer thou, especially one I know has never been thrashed.

No I mean they don't seem to be making £3k on eBay ATM

    I didn't say that though, did I.

I might also say that anyone selling a not too disastered K3 for something
under £3k could probably move it on a bit sharpish...

I find that very hard to believe given I got £3600 for my K1 a little
    over a year ago.

Things can change a lot in a year and TOG did guess things would get worse.
An incredibly wet spring has put paid to lots of plans I imagine.
I am only looking at eBay mind, and it seems to be somewhere between 2 and 3
grand for a K3 ATM if you want a successful auction.

I sold mine on Ebay and 3600 was my reserve. It hit reserve with the
first bid and then no-one else apart from the dealer who bid.

He then went on to sell it for 4k.

Of course I was asleep at the time. ****. That's about what I thought eBay
would get you in the current market.
