What's happened to all the BMW K-series?

  1. But in these straitened times, CCs incur fees and banks charge for
anything. Nice cash means you that you can pay a few suppliers without
incurring charges, or just shove it in the safe and use it to buy a bike
off the next bod who walks in off the street asking: "What will you give
    me for my bike?"

And I haven't even mentioned the word 'taxman' yet. Oh, doh!

Took me a while, on reading that, to figure out that Le Jog wasn't
    somewhere in France.

(based on the K75, so this information may not apply to the 1100...) The
seat swap isn't trivial, and the catch is that the seat is wider than
the standard one as it sits outside of the frame rails

Why oh Why don't they do a new R1250 with the classic RS fairing updated a
touch with a power screen and twin HID lights

Gearbox splines, who needs to grease them? After all, it's only a
    700-800 quid job IIRC[1].
They all do that, sir. At least IME.

[1] Clutch splines gave up the ghost on the way to Brian - I wanted him
to check them over because the clutch didn't feel right.

I believe they're still working on that particular model...

  9. Or something like it. Hell, people even fitted that fairing to K75s. I
was going to say it's the best fairing I've ever sat behind, but it's
the second-best. The 1100LT is Number One.

Guzzi Spada fairing (the three-piece one that employed the Le Mans Two
    lowers) is an honourable third.

Pan European 1100? Never really worked for me. The screen was too far
away and there was some turbulence. The Trophy 1200 was noisy but OK.

You are missing the most important bit, the psychological effect of real
    money.
"I think 2000 is a good price" - lays 4 nice bank wrapped 500 wads of
    crisp 20s on the table.
    "Not enough"
"If you dont want it" - starts taking the wads off the table.

They'd prefer to hear 'I only have enough for the deposit. What's your
    finance rate?'

Seen a K75RT on eBay. 27k miles. £2100 'make an offer'.

    Looks very clean.

  13. Well, yes, but these days credit isn't so easy to get.

Probably best of all is: "Here's my bike for trade-in, and here's a wad
    of cash. Let's talk..."

  14. Looks superb, full three piece luggage kit, as clean as you like, low
miles, all the right desirable extras: buy it. Not the grunt of the 1100
    but still a super tourer.

I've put in an offer. Slightly on the cheeky side, but hoping we can
meet in the middle at £2k.

Hardly surprising when you consider they almost certainly get paid
    commission by finance companies.

Plenty of people say the 75 is a better bike but I'd go for the bigger
    engine every time.

I'd also say that thought the RT fairing gives more protection the RS
is a lot better for high speed blasts but that's only an impression
gained from a couple of quick rides on an RT and a lot of miles on an
    RS.
    Dirt adds character.

I had fun when I bought the GSXR. Best deal was offered on the
dealers finance. After he did the calcs it came out at an APR of 11%.
To which I expressed disquiet and mentioned I could get a personal
loan from the Post Office at about 6%.

He then said, "ok, would you mind doing the deal now on this so I can
get the kick-back and then pay it off with the personal loan? The
finance has no penalties for early payment". I agree because I was
pleased with his honesty. Paid off the finance before the first
payment even went out so it didn't cost me a penny.

I've done this before now. I could afford to pay cash, but this was
the only way to get a discount (which the salesman wasn't authorised
to give per se). I paid the HP off in full a couple of weeks later
    with no penalties.
