No. Get a better mechanic, and one who's got an ultrasonic cleaner,
and get him to do the job *properly*.

Agreed, but it is clearly running weak unless on choke so maybe check
for air leaks twixt carbs and inlet. I once spent an entertaining
day looking for a similar fault when I put a carb back on with an
O ring hiding on the floor.

Could be lots of things really, but I'd start by checking nothing's
living in the airbox (or left a nest there), & of course try running it
with the petrol cap open just in case.

Shouldn't the mechanic have done that when he replaced the carbs after
    cleaning them?

I really doubt there is one in this part of the world. But I will be taking
the bike up to the mechanic now that I've got it running after cutting the
split end off the vacuum pipe, as it still ticks over on 3.

I think the vacuum pipe was the original problem, so I think I've wasted 80
euros and lots of time. Silly me.

In Spanish summer heat? Quite possible.

Indeed. Which is why I took them to a bloke wot has an airline, as I don't.

I might add here that I was a motor mechanic for quite a few years and have
stripped and cleaned hundreds of carbs. Although they were things like SUs
    and Zeniths etc.

Wanna talk about submarine instruments, leaded windows, fitted wardrobes,
porting console games or ant-virus software while we're here? And don't call
    me Jack.

Things have changed. All the additives and stuff in modern unleaded
fuel present a far worse problem than you probably had to deal with,
back in the day. Also, modern bike carbs are horrendously complex
things with more galleries and passages than you'll find in the Tate.

Ah, that's what it is: the carb's closed for Elf 'n' Safety reasons.

Fair enough. A carb is a fairly simple device. "Delicate", then.

I just rode the bike up to the workshop that cleaned the carbs. He wrote
"carburation" (well, in dago, obviously) on the job card. I wonder if I'm
going to get charged twice for the same thing.

    Probably.
