I've just got a replacement rear wheel for my SOBM (see
    below, it serves me well).
Tyre fitters said they could not balance it.
How crucial is it to have the rear wheel balanced?
I want to fit it now but I can't get it balanced till tomorrow.

    Perfect, thanks.
Now I'll swap the brake discs, I want the cast iron one on
the bike, and fit the wheel.
    Cheers.

thinking about it, I would have thought only bikes with single-sided
swingarms would be much affected even by a fairly out of balance rear
    wheel (and I don't know why I think this, it's a gut-feeling)
    I'd have thought so.

So you were going to get the wheel balanced, & /then/ swap the brake
    discs...?

    Er, no....
There are other variables at play in a rear wheel - usually the chain
run, which is unlikely to be in balance anyway. However, on a shafty
like the Beemer, I'd get the rear wheel balanced too.

See other posting - on a shafty, where the drive shaft is (usually) in
perfect balance, unlike a chain, it's advisable to balance the rear
wheel as well as the front.

    What's a balanced chain run?

A crap description, really. What I meant is that a flapping chain on a
spinning wheel tends to be an out-of-balance factor acting on the
    wheel anyway...
