Anybody using this self sealing wheel stuff?

I am off touring in a couple of weeks and it will save any hassle if it's
    effective, but is it?

Anybody have any comments either way.

    Thanks

  2. If you mean Tyre weld and the like, it can get you out of a hole, but no
way is it a permanent repair. If you mean the gloop you pour into your
tyres first, avoid like the plague.

That bad then? I've often wondered about adding something like that
    as a safety measure.

What's it do? Rot the tyre? Unbalance it? Or just not work ...

I used to use the green stuff (was it called Gloop?) and never had any
problems, and had it seal a few puncture before the tyre went flat.
However that was on tubed cross-ply tyres on old bikes and Land-Rovers.

It never caused me any trouble, but as I say, I've never tried it in
    tubeless tyres.

I had the front blow out on my WB [1] it nearly made a mess but I
managed to keep it upright. I then used that tyre re-seal stuff and the
    tyre is still up.

Nah, more "don't have to push $^$"" thing home cause of a puncture"
    type safety measure.

I have never had a blowout. <fx: cue big blowout this afternoon>

Funnily enough, this was "recommended" to me by the bloke at HGB
tyres. I decided to take my chances, and keep a can of tyre weld in
the pannier. It's not as if I'm pushed for space, after all.

    "Oooh! Spooky!"

    Or not.

Some people like it, others don't. The green slime stuff and that other
muck that Greg wossname was touting are supposed to work, however, of the
    three tyre-fitters I've mentioned it to, they've all said the same thing;
    don't do it.

I've yet, however, to hear a cogent, reasoned argument as to /why/ this is
a bad thing other than that I'd imagine it's messy when it comes to
    replace the tyre.

Yep. Me. I use Ultraseal in all my vehicles, although I'm forbidden to
tell you how good it is or where you can get it.

This might or might not be effective. One of our previous MDs used to
insist that spamming newsgroups (or buying email lists etc for
spamming) was a "good thing", despite the protestations from
"downstairs". We refused point blank to be part of this exercise.

Our final line of defence was to point out that our ISP would almost
certainly also get notified of the internet abuse, and that getting a
replacement ISP at short notice would be (a) difficult and (b)
    expensive.

My advice: notify the upstream provider of the offender, including
note of all previous similar incidents. They're more likely to take
    action.

Badger was seen penning the following ode to ... whatever:
So your company provided the blueprint for that particular Dilbert
    strip[1]...

    What a prat.

[1] PHB wants to improve the company's reputation in the Internet
community so Dilbert (sarcastically) suggests a huge spam
campaign. And then has to implement it...
