When is a Weston Beach Race not a Weston Beach Race

  1. Sadly that was my last memory of Baggeridge too.
I still call in there for a cuppa / ice cream when on my travels.

Hockey's garage, RHL HQ, is between here & Usk and where I get my MOTs
done. Great people to deal with but vey old school and, allegedly, not
averse to large brown envelopes stuffed with cash. Much of their business
is cash out of the back of a van at MotoX events across the country,
selling clothing & spares. I'm not surprised that they have been naive
enough to think they have "agreements" with the council based on goodwill
    and, allegedly, old fashioned backhanders.

  3. In which case it is only right and proper that it is all over. Dave would
be ever so upset and disappointed if he thought that sort of thing was
    still going on.

Funnily enough I was discussing last Friday this with someone who's won
minor trophies in the past at Weston and he reckons new organisers will
be a breath of fresh air compared to the current bunch of muppets.

He also strongly advised against ever doing the beach race unless you
want to be unable to sit down for a week due to the amount of sand that
finds its way up your arse and he was quite clear about the fact that
you should sell any bike you use for the race as soon as possible
afterwards because it'll be wrecked. He said that even if you pressure
wash the bike straight after the race it'll be rubbished and no amount
of silicon grease or ACF50 will keep the sand and salt water away from
    vulnerable parts.

The bottom line on any beach race is that even if the entry fee seems
realistic you'll blow a lot of cash doing it because of the damage to
the bike and if you think you're being clever by using an older bike it
won't last the race if you're giving it any stick. I still fancy
having a go but just jolly round at a nice steady pace and try to get a
few slow laps done before I fall over due to exhaustion.

I was chatting to someone last week - exactly who I can't remember - and
he told of a friend who'd done the Weston race once. He apparently did
one full lap before pulling in and declaring "**** that".

Spectating is as close as I'm going to bother to get.
