  2. Oh yes. Absolutely. And a proper separation between public and saloon
    bars.

    9. A proper juke box you could kick to make the record skip if you
didn't like it. Always a good way to break the ice.

I'd make do with them just having a future. Two of the three near me[1]
that were worth going to have gone bust in the last couple of months.

[1] For 'within 10 minutes drive' values of near.

Not according to the landlady of one of them, who blames it fairly &
squarely on the smoking ban. They were both the only pubs in their
respective villages, so everyone knew everyone. She said the regular
trade dried up with the smoking ban. The locals would still meet at the
pub, have one drink, then all go off to one of their houses instead.

    The Oysterfleet pub.

You need to know who owns (or owned) it to know why it can be a good
    night in there.

Not that there are really that many independents. Most are owned by
pubcos and they're going to the wall due to over-financing, trying to
screw their tenants on the way down.

Him or his mate who was the manager. The original band members still
alive turn up quite frequently and they start the Lee Brilleaux
memorial summat or other do there every year.

It's actually not a bad pub and the accommodation is ok in a
contractor kind of way. We always stop there when we're working at
Coryton but given that the alternative is Bas Vegas it's not really a
    difficult decision.

Ah, right. I used to go into the Three Brewers (IIRC) on Barkham Road, or
that place up on The Terrace. And The Ship, or Anchor or whatever, up the
    top end of the town.
I don't think it was that many, but it was still quite a lot.

  20. One of my locals has it's 4 set of tenants move in today and that's over
    the last 6 months.
Punch T screwing the tenant and raising the rent each time.
Run by accountants with no idea of how a country pub works. But they
think that if they lie about the takings and beer consumption the new
    tenant will believe them.
