Where do we go after Chimay?

Fairly obvious question but we're looking for suggestions as to where
    to go.

The first decision is whether we do a quick visit to Reichswald Forest
    (1) on the way to Chimay or on the Monday afternoon when we leave
Chimay. We're spending the Thursday night in Calais so doing the visit
on the way to Chimay turns a 150 mile trip into a 350 mile one but we
could do that and still be at the campsite by 4pm.

Once we've done the racing bit we're looking for ideas to cover the
rest of the week. Adie has made it clear that she wants a hotel where
we can go out for a ride on the bikes _and_ do tourist stuff wherever
it is we decide to stop so a small town is good, near a river or lake
where waterside food and drinks are available is even better.

We'll probably be bugging Ace at some point so going south is a major
factor in the planning but a circular route isn't an obstacle. I'll be
using my lardy old K100 so I'm not looking for particularly
'challenging' roads but we don't want to be battering along on
    motorways for long distances.

    Go for it...

    (1) A short trip to take a couple of pics of the cemetary where my
    uncle ended up.

Is that a recommendation or did you throw a dart at a map and decide
to send me there so I can report back?

Yes, so far and probably for a while longer. I'll email the Belge mobile
number once I've looked it up.

Well, you could nip down and inflict yourselves upon Ace, then take off
round the Bodensee, see the airships at Friedrichshafen, take in the start
of the Bregenz[1] Festival[2], then wander off down through the Alps and
spend a couple of days on the Italian Lakes.

[1] twinned with Bangor, NI - I scarcely need to remind you that you each
    hold BOB numbers, do I?

Partly. It's not far out of your way if heading for Ace's from Chimay.
We liked it, so you could google and see if you like the look of it
    too
We didn't have time to have a look at the nearby Eifel Mountains, so
    thought you might!

It's got a cathedral so Adie would be happy for an afternoon. It
_must_ have plenty of bars so I'd obviously like it.
    Now there's an idea...

Nice (from what I can remember anyway). I also remember getting very
pissed at the Black Cat in Trier several times.

    Thanks for the suggestions.

We've done the usual thing of looking at a large scale map (everything
seems closer that way) then ignoring common sense and other peoples
    suggestions and decided on.....

    Lake Iseo.

Google maps and clicking on the terrain option swung it for me,
picturesque town and apparently nice restaurants swung it for Adie.

I look forward to hearing about it.

Avoid the S38 to the north (Sondrio way) - speed limits and heavy
    traffic everywhere.

  19. Ahh .... good call..... I traversed down the side of Lake Iseo after doing
the Stelvio Pass last year en route to that gem of a hotel outside Asti.

I must admit I'm thinking of taking a trip out there for a long weekend
*just* to visit the hotel again.
