    your all missing the point,

if your a houso, you get the house for free, no morgage, no rent,

kids, the more kids you have the more centerlink pays you, if you have
enough kids, you dont even have to look for work, no child care, you just
leave them in the houso house while you go down to the pub.

Nev's question still stands, though. If it's really as fantastic as you
make it seem, what with the free house and heaps of drinking time, what
are you still doing here? Why aren't you down at Centrelink?

Did you see that "current affairs" show the other night where they talked
She paid for it, she deserves it!!! :)

I have a mate who is livid about a means-test on the pension. He says it is
punishing the people who do the right thing and plan for the future (ie
saving some money) while rewarding the people who squander any money they
get with no regard for the future knowing they can live on handouts later
on. I think he has a point there, but the problem is to have some sort of
balance as some people only earn enough money to get by.

US Social Security is like that. If I work a certain number of quarters
there (and I'm getting close), I'll qualify for their pension, even if I'm
not in the US. It'll be interesting! I've certainly put quite a lot of money
    into it.

So why aren't you doing that? A bit like sledging aborigines, isn't it. Lots
of people tell me aborigines get this, get that, gov't pays for everything,
but I've never met anyone who wants to be one.

I don't see how any of those responses even approached amusing.
We need social harmony. If we go the way of america and cut off the dole
after a certain time then crime increases. I don't like paying career
bludgers either but it is a necessity of life.
Because we live in a decent society? Or should we just leave the disabled to
fend for themselves, such as people who can't spell "the". ;-)
I agree there could be some stricter control on pollies.
I grew up in a single parent family with very little money.

    I'm slowly becoming one.

A few years back, a visiting friend told a rather racist joke about an
aborigine. He was a bit put off when no-one laughed. When I left the
room a little while later, my SO (who has a most wicked sense of humour)
told him that my mother was an aborigine. She didn't tell me until after
he had left. We've never set him straight, and I notice that whenever I
visit friends up his way, they sometimes make courteous passing
references to "your people". It's a bit late now to let him in on the
joke. It does seem to have made him think again about one of his attitudes.

As someone who was raised in a housing commission house in the country,
may I suggest that you shove your prejudices up your bum.

Is it any wonder that some people have little respect for those in your
profession when you spout this sort of garbage?

I wonder how many of the problems you have with "housos" arise because
    of your thick-headed bigotry?

Amen to that. We purchased a new housing commission house when we were not
long married and lived in it for 30 years.

They have cut back on most of those (except for the cops, as befits Tory
fear-mongers). How about they cut back on desert gulags, invading other
countries, and corporate welfare? How about they cut back on billion-dollar
weapons purchases (obsolete Vietnam-era choppers that no other country would
take for free)? How come government spokespeople never mention those?
