Where to go, what to do

Well, once again I'm asking advice from the FOAK (may gawd have mercy
    on me).

Now, I've booked next week off work for a bit of a break, and I did
fancy going to Scootland for 4 days (Monday - Thursday, other
commitments either side of then, see) but so far the weather forecast
is looking a bit..grim and wet up there.

So, I thought about other places. Apart from the fact that the weather
looks like it's going to be crap on the IOM, fixing the Fiat has taken
more than the cash needed to get there.

Getting to Ireland is a bit cheaper and just about do-able, but the
    forecast isn't good there, either.

So, I've looked at the forecast for South Wales and the Southern area
of the UK, which at the moment look a lot more favourable weather-wise
than getting pissed on for 4 days on the bike oop norf.

Now it's come to the point whereby I throw myself at the mercy of the
bods on here and ask..do you know of any decent routes, places to visit
and places to stay (camping or cheap B&B/Pub accommodation), and even
    places to eat?

Loads of cheap B&Bs in Swansea - look especially towards Mumbles and
Gower which is very nice this time of the year.

You can't really go wrong riding around South / Mid Wales - pick almost
any B-road and it'll be a good one.

In terms of stuff to do - the Bridged Heritage cost looks good, I've
heard good things about Cardiff and Caerphilly Castles, but never been.
'Big Pit' is a must do if you have a few hours to spare, though.

Drop me an email if you're going to be in the area (Caerphilly), 'cos
you're welcome to do beers and crashing here.

    not too bad.

What about the Lakes? Or a quick foray into northern France?
B&B, if the weathers iffy it has to be B&B

Actually, the Tipperary area doesn't look all that bad for the week.
The Lakes is about an hour away from me, good for a days blast but not
good enough for more than that.

Northern France isn't really do-able in the time, when I do the
TOG-tours I usually take a day to get there and a day to get back over
and above the usual itinerary that TOG gives us. After the last
TOG-tour where I went from our location in France all the way back home
in one shot, then no, my arse was far too sore! Which is a shame,
because the forecast in France is far better than over here.
Aye, but it's nice to be underneath the stars too, on a nice dry night,
with a coupla beers ) Especially if you are by the sea, listening to
the water lapping on the beach.

Noted, and I'll drop you an email Sunday if I'm heading down there (I
quite fancy doing some of those roads DC took me on on the advanced
course over the past couple of years). Cheers ears.

SP emerged from their own little world to say
I'm currently based in Abergavenny. I'm free Tues-Thurs if you want a guide
for Mid & S.Wales, Herefordshire & the Forest of Dean.

It's too close to the dates to get cheap flights (sleazyjet, et al) at
those prices I could take the car over to the IOM and not worry about
    the weather )

You don't want to go wasting money riding your bike in the wet to far
flung places. You want to ride 5 miles to my house and help me & Pam
    decorate the hall and landing.

Dad and I did a whistle stop tour of Wales in July and stopped in Tenby
one night at a nice B & B I got out of an MCN supplement. CAn pass on
the details from home if you want.

Some nice places further north too.

Ah well, you see, my plan was to *avoid* P&D by taking a week now
rather than going 'oh bugger, is that the time of year already, now
it's winter and I can't take time off in December so I need a week
*now* and I end out P&D.

   )

    Ooh, ta.
I know there are nice places further north (assuming you are talking
Wales here?) but I fancy a couple of days further than just NW,
otherwise it'll be a couple of days doing endless loops of the routes I
used to do pre-Brunstrom. And I really do fancy trying some good SW
roads - I didn't know there were any good roads until DC took me on
    them.

You still at home then? I'll let you know, perhaps a coupla days in
SW, then ride to yours on Wed and bimble back on the A-roads Thursday.

I suppose I'll need to bring my own teabags..

Sans bike, still need to find accommodation, plus getting to and from
the airport (already thought of that one ;o) )

And, being single, there is *always* a supplement on any accommodation,
    which is a PITA.

Tourist info will know of places from ultra cheap to five star - you'll be
    fixed up inside an hour
Train or shuttle bus - very cheap. The continentals have a better grasp of
    public transport.
Nope - outside of UK virtually all rooms are priced per room, not per
    person.
