And if the recruitment area of the UKPA is to be believed soon, next
year all adults applying for their first passport will have to attend
    an interview.

I think most folk here already know most of your distant and dubious past,
given you're not the most secretive person in the world....

Except for that one time when........

Ahh, yes, found it. Nov 7th "Don't know and don't care. I'm off on
me hols to sunny Jamaica tomorrow and I am ready to go now."

He was probably wearing a condom already.

If I was an evil, evil person I would search for his inbound flight
seat reservation and change his meal to an Asian Baby Vegetarian one
or put in a wheelchair service request that he must be carried to his
    seat.

Speeding up the application in itself is worth the £7.

  9. Almost all Tube stations have a photo machine that will produce the new
    style of photos.
Yes but you will see the leaflet in the application pack. There is a lot
of fiddling about needed to make sure your face is correctly positioned.
The first set of pictures I got were wrong so I had to do it again. The
chap in the post office had a special grid and he placed the photo in
each grid to make sure it "passed". He said the Passport Agency were now
very strict about photos because they are digitally scanned and can be
compared against a camera image they may take of you at the port of
    entry.

As said by BGN new applicants will also need to interviewed as from next
year when they start the switch to biometric identigf^H^H^passports.

You're both helping me feel much happier that I will get my passport

    What's the new style?

I've not got round to doing photos yet.

Are the "traditional" style photo booths no good any more?

There's one in my local Sainsos.
Right, so the check and send method is good for sorting this out, no?
    Jesus! What next?

Anal probes or just a retina scan?

I assume this will apply to renewals, too.....

Unless this nonsense spreads to Ireland, I'll stick with my Irish passport

  16. Sorry - I should simply have said the new digital print booths rather
than the old ones where you stood like a pillock for 5 mins outside the
booth waiting for the piccies to drop out. The new booths give you 3
attempts to get a satisfactory picture and then "develop" and print it
in less than a minute. They also talk to you :)
The consensus seems to be that it is a very good idea. The fact that it
also seems to speed up the time for providing a passport is a bonus.
That may not apply in your case because IIRC it's first application so
there are more checks to be made compared to a simple renewal.

  17. In uk.rec.motorcycles, Paul Corfield amazed us all with this pearl of
    wisdom:
Yes, digital is what I meant. The one I was going to use has a screen in
front and you can choose which picture you want before you press the
    "go" button.
Check and send it is then. I've had a passport before but let it lapse
for quite a while so my application's as good as a first.

    <Terrible Admission Mode>

I quite liked it, apart from Julia Roberts [1] ... Tim McInnery's good
in it [2], as is that bloke who was in "Thin Blue Line" as PC Goody, and
the "date dressed up as an interview with Horse & Hound" sequence fair
    tickled me too.[/QUOTE]

Just been watching it. I liked it too - including Julia Roberts.
